Kyle Sandilands fined thousands for taking too many sick days - NEWS.com.au

Kyle Sandilands estimates that he’s been fined “about a quarter of a million dollars” for taking too many sick days at KIIS FM.

In years gone by, Kyle’s penchant for chucking a sickie has been well documented. But during an interview with Kate Langbroek on air this morning, the radio star insisted he’s changed.

“I’m here most of the time,” he told Langbroek, who co-hosts 3PM Pick Up on KIIS FM.

Kyle then revealed he has a strict number of sick days he’s allowed to take each year, and if he goes over, he gets fined big bucks.

“You know how you get sick days every year? My accountant told me that I’m over … all before February,” he said. “Then the fines system that they put in place here for me (kicks in).

“Anyway … I realised that about a quarter of a million dollars had been pissed away for nothing!”

“Exactly, you would have missed out on a lot of money,” Jackie O agreed.

To be fair, Kyle isn’t short on money. Kyle reportedly gets paid between $7-8 million each per year.

That means he gets paid $39,000 for every single three-and-a-half hour radio show he does.

KYLE’S HEALTH PROBLEMS

Despite taking some dubious sick days throughout his career, Kyle has also battled a number of health problems over the years.

Last year he broke down in tears on air as he opened up about his mental health struggles.

“Inside, I’m very, very sad,” he said. “(People) look at me and think, ‘Yeah, you’re a fat b**tard, you should be sad,’” he continued, as a tearful Jackie O added: “And you haven’t been having a great time lately.”

“Not for a long time,” Kyle responded.

“I just feel really let down by a lot of people, a lot of the time,” he continued. “Everyone has their struggles – but I often feel very alone.”

With both hosts in tears, Jackie O reminded him she was always checking in.

“You’re not alone – I reach out to you all the time. I know you put your guard up, you’ve had a lot of bad eggs … You’ve had people who have used you, and that’s probably caused a lot of the loneliness and sadness in your life.”

In 2018 Kyle also opened up on air about his drug use and revealed that he used cocaine when he was hosting Big Brother back in 2008.

“Back in the day, bad drug addiction,” he confessed to a stunned Jackie O. “Migraines, I was self-medicating on my own illegal narcotics.”

“How bad was it?” a shocked Jackie asked.

“Oh you know, the divorce had happened and life wasn’t great back then so I buried my face into a big pile of cocaine to try and get over it. It didn’t work.”

The KIIS FM host said the drug use lasted several years in the late 2000s and admitted he didn’t care if he died or not.

“The blood pressure, that’s what could have killed me,” he said. “They said, ‘Listen, your blood pressure is so high continuously that at any stage you could just die.’ I was like, ‘Whatever.’

“I didn’t care if I lived or died. Isn’t that weird?”

Kyle said he turned to another drug to try and overcome his cocaine use.

“I got off that by hitting the weed, hard,” he said.

“If you’re self-medicating on anything, alcohol, any sort of drugs … you should try and get off it,” he said to KIIS FM listeners.

“It’s not a good spot to be in,” he said. “But I still came in and gave it everything, most days.”
