Taylor Swift steps in to pay salary and healthcare for employees at vintage record store near her Nashville home during coronavirus closure

When she was 13 year's old, her family moved to Nashville to pursue her budding music career.

And now Taylor Swift is giving something back to the city which put her on the road to stardom, reaching out to support staff at a beloved independent vintage music store.

The superstar's publicist contacted Grimey's New & Preloved Music with an offer to pay the salaries and healthcare costs for staff during the next three months, after the store was shuttered when the city's mayor issued a state at home order.

The co-owner told Rolling Stone he was 'amazed' by the shock offer, which he hoped would mean the store would be able top continue trading after the coronavirus pandemic waned.

Doyle Davis admitted 'I didn't even know we were on her radar' and said he was 'very surprised, and I would have to say amazed'.

He said the business would still need to apply for loans to pay their rent and other expenses, but that Taylor's help 'gives us a real shot at coming back on the other side of this.'

One staff member, buyer Will Orman, told Rolling Stone: 'It's incredibly heartening and totally surreal that Taylor Swift has offered to help us out in such a significant way. With so much uncertainty about what lies ahead, we're deeply grateful to be able to look forward to returning to the store and continuing to share music and connect with our community, thanks to Taylor's generous support.'

One of the top-earning musicians of the decade, Taylor, 30, has long made a point of reaching out to help fans in need.

During the pandemic she has been quietly sending sums of money to her fans, after reading about their struggles online, with several donations of $3,000.

Taylor reached out to several of her supporters via private message asking for their PayPal details to gift the sums after reading about their struggles online.

Samantha Jacobson had written on Tumblr that she'd lost her 'only source of income' after the cocktail bar she worked in in Disney World, Florida, closed down for a month due to the pandemic, prompting Taylor to get in touch and offer to help her pay her bills.

Samantha, 24, said: 'I was in shock. I was just speechless. I couldn't believe someone I had looked up to and love and respected for so long has reached out with such generosity. 'It's all gonna go to bills right now. I applied for unemployment and I'm looking to pick up a temp job, so this is really helpful right now at a time of uncertainty.'

Holly Turner's Tumblr post about her concerns she'd have to leave New York due to the pandemic and its impact on her finances was also seen by Taylor and she was stunned when the singer 'saved' her situation.

She explained: 'I saw that she had just started following me on Tumblr, so I was jumping around and screaming about that, and then I saw that the top post on Tumblr was about the fact that I was financially struggling and I thought, 'There's no way she's following me because of that.'

'Then I started losing my mind even more... I wasn't going to be able to stay in my apartment after May, if it weren't for this... I have been working my entire life to be able to live in New York City and I thought that was going to be taken, and she saved that for me. So, I am just so, so, so grateful.'

The charitable gifting is nothing new for Taylow - who in the past has regularly contributed to GoFundMes, paying for everything from a fans college tuition, to a support dog for an autistic boy.

She has also helped out in a more public fashion, donating millions to good causes.

In 2016 she gave $1million to the Louisiana flood relief, followed by $100,000 to the Tennessee wildfire relief.

Other recipients of her generosity include public school systems, symphony orchestras, charities that support victims of sexual assault, and GLAAD

And in 2012 she donated a cool  $4million to the Country Music Hall of Fame to open the Taylor Swift Education Center.
