Truth behind star’s exit from hit TV show - news.com.au

Eric Dane believes he was fired from Grey’s Anatomy.

The Euphoria star, 51, opened up about his exit from the long-running ABC series after starring as Dr Mark Sloan for six seasons from 2006 to 2012.

“I didn’t leave so much as I think I was let go,” Dane admitted on Friday’s episode of Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, Page Six reported

When Shepard noted the actor was “struggling” with drug and alcohol addiction toward the end of his run on the series, Dane responded, “I was struggling. They didn’t let me go because of that, although it definitely didn’t help”.

Dane clarified that he believes he was let go due to financial reasons.

“I was starting to become – as most of these actors who have spent significant time on the show – you start to become very expensive for the network,” he said.

“And the network knows that the show is going to do what it’s going to do irrespective of who they keep on it – as long as they have their Grey they were fine.”

He went on to explain that he “wasn’t the same guy they had hired” so he understood when the producers decided to let him go.

Dane also praised the show’s creator, Shonda Rhimes, for being “really great” throughout the ordeal.

“She protected us fiercely. She protected us publicly, she protected us privately … I love Shonda Rhimes and she protected me but I was probably fired,” Dane recalled.

“It wasn’t ceremoniously like, ‘You’re fired,’ it was just like, ‘You’re not coming back,’” he said.

British television star Bradley Walsh fired his fortune to $37 million last year by making more than $47,000 a week.

ITV and BBC are fighting over The Chase and Gladiators host as one of the hottest hosts on TV, according to The Sun.

Accounts for the 64-year-old’s company Wingit Productions Limited were up by $2.45 million last year as his stardom soared.

It saw Walsh plough $9.46 million into his investment portfolio – boosting that pot to $12 million.

He also has $7.57 million in cash at the bank and is owed almost $19 million from debtors.

The 64-year-old has grown Wingit from a tiny $39,000 business with his company secretary wife Donna.

Accounts do not show how much the star paid himself but he has taken $2.08 million of ‘advances’ from the firm.

Walsh’s career has boomed in the 22 years since it was set up – seeing him host last year’s Royal Variety Show.

Lady Gaga issues stern ‘Diddy’ ultimatum - news.com.au

A powerhouse Manhattan law firm which represents most heavy hitters in the music industry, has kicked renegade rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs to the kerb, according to NewsNation.

Grubman, Shire, Meiselas & Sacks recently dumped Diddy because a bigger name client — Lady Gaga — gave the legal eagles an ultimatum.

“Lady Gaga said she was leaving [the firm] if they didn’t drop Diddy. And she’s too big to lose,” the insider said.

Not wanting to risk a “Bad Romance,” it was Done Diddy.

Combs was the law firm’s client for more than 20 years, The NY Post reports.

He was friends with legendary lawyer Allen Grubman, even known to stop by his Hampton digs before the mogul’s fall from grace, the report said.

The firm’s biggest fear was that a Gaga goodbye would trigger a race to the exits by other bold-faced artists, the dispatch said.

Grubman, a founder of The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, became the first practising lawyer to be inducted there in November 2022.

Past and present GSM & S clients include Elton John, Barbra Streisand, Lil Nas X, The Weeknd, Madonna, U2 and Drake.

Combs has been persona non grata ever since reports surfaced of alleged twisted conduct.

Mayor Eric Adams revoked Combs’ key to NYC, less than three weeks after a shocking video leaked of the rap mogul beating his ex, The Post previously reported.

The key was returned after Adams fired off a June 4 letter to Combs, according to Fabien Levy, deputy mayor for communications.

Combs also scrubbed his Instagram last week, NewsNation reported.

Movie star’s kid, 16, rewears her dress - news.com.au

Movie star Jessica Alba has proudly shared that her daughters wore some of her classic red carpet looks at the premiere of her new Netflix movie, Trigger Warning.

The 43-year-old mum said her eldest daughter Honor, 16, wore a Prada checked dress to the premiere that she’d already worn to the premiere of her movie Valentine’s Day back in 2010.

Meanwhile, her youngest daughter Haven, 12, wore a denim Dolce and Gabbana dress that she’d worn to promote the romantic comedy Good Luck Chuck in 2010.

“I love seeing my girls wear some of my archived pieces and adding their own touch,” she wrote on Instagram.

People were quick to comment on how sweet it was to see the girls paying tribute to their famous mum including actor Eva Mendes who wrote, “this is so damn sweet,”

“I love this,” one wrote.

“Mummy and daughter goals,” another remarked.

“Gorgeous! This is so special,” Aussie actor Teresa Palmer commented.

Alba is best known for her work in early 2000s films like Good Luck ChuckInto The Blue, and Sin City.

In true Gwyneth Paltrow style, she transitioned from acting into running her wellness brand, Honest Company, but now seems to be leaning back into acting.

Alba is pretty private but always happy to gush about her children.

Recently, she said she was crying while writing an Instagram birthday tribute for Honor and called being a mum the “most tender” feeling in the world.

Alba praised her daughter for being sweet but also wise and allowing only people she trusted to be close to her.

This is probably a handy habit when your mum’s a movie star.

“You sniff out fake people like no other. You are effortless in standing in your truth, you are considerate and kind and you care deeply about everyone around you,” she gushed.

Alba added she was proud her daughter always chose doing what is right over doing what is cool, and putting her mental wellness first.

“You are a powerhouse of a human, and you are only 16! We are all so blessed, my baby, and I feel tremendously grateful for our relationship and our bond,” she wrote.

“I love you more than words could ever express. You are growing up way too fast for me, but I couldn’t be more proud.”

Star, 35, arrives in Sydney with newborn - news.com.au

A former child star has been seen arriving in Sydney with her young family in tow.

Former Disney star Aly Michalka, 35, kept a low profile as she walked through Sydney airport with her newborn son, Jack, and husband Stephen Ringer.

She wore leggings and a slouchy white jumper and kept her hair pulled back.

The new mum welcomed her son in April and kept him strapped to her chest as she wandered around the airport.

Her husband Stephen, a film producer, boldly wore a fedora paired with an oversized plaid shirt. Nothing quite screams “I’m a celebrity” like wearing a bold hat; ask Guy Sebastian.

The former Disney star is in town, along with several other stars, such as The Vampire Diaries actor Kat Graham, for the Comic-Con Supernova event where thousands of fans buy tickets to meet their favourite stars.

Aly was a main character in the television series iZombie, which ran from 2015 to 2019. The show has since gained a cult following, hence why she’s appearing at Supernova.

If you’re not familiar with that show, there’s a reason Aly might still look familiar to you; she’s a former Disney kid.

She got her big break on the show Phil of the Future and capitalised on that by teaming up with her younger sister AJ and becoming a musical duo, Aly & AJ.

The sisters have released five albums together over the past 20 years. They even released the banger The Potential Break-Up Song about her then-boyfriend Joe Jonas forgetting to ring her on her birthday. Their most recent album, With Love From, came out last year.

Aly and AJ also starred in the Disney straight-to-television movie Cow Belles together and Super Sweet Sixteen, an MTV film.

Outside of their musical efforts, AJ found success on her own in the sitcom The Goldbergs and its spin-off Schooled.

Aly, on the other hand, has made her mark in the film industry with roles in movies like Grown Up 2 and Easy A, while also maintaining a consistent presence on television.

More Coverage

In 2021, she opened up to the Washington Post about the awkward experience of going from child star to adult.

“People don’t want to see their childhood idol grow up, and that can be really hard to navigate. Because you do want to grow up, and you do want to spread your wings, but you’re trying not to do it too fast,” she explained.

“AJ and I were able to do that a little bit more in the privacy of our own homes, and it wasn’t quite as exploited as it was for others. I’m grateful for that.”

‘Heartbroken’: Prolific sitcom star dead - news.com.au

Martin Mull, a musician and actor best known for his work in comedies like Clue, Roseanne and Arrested Development, died Thursday after struggling with an unknown illness, his family announced. He was 80.

“I am heartbroken to share that my father passed away at home on June 27th, after a valiant fight against a long illness,” his daughter, Maggie, wrote on Instagram today.

“He was known for excelling at every creative discipline imaginable and also for doing Red Roof Inn commercials,” she continued. “He would find that joke funny. He was never not funny.

“My dad will be deeply missed by his wife and daughter, by his friends and co-workers, by fellow artists and comedians and musicians, and — the sign of a truly exceptional person — by many, many dogs,” she added in the post that included a heartwarming photo of Mull petting a pooch’s belly.

“I loved him tremendously.”

Mull launched his career in the 1970s TV shows Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman and Fernwood 2 Night, before starring as Colonel Mustard in the 1985 film Clue, Leon Carp on Roseanne and beloved private investigator Gene Parmesan on Arrested Development.

He also made his mark with his guest role as political aide Bob Bradley in Veep, which earned him an Emmy nomination in 2016.

Mull’s most recent roles included guest appearances on The Afterparty, Not Dead Yet and Grace and Frankie.

Mull is survived by his wife, the former Wendy Haas, an actor and composer he married in 1982, and his daughter Maggie, a TV writer and producer.

TV star breaks silence over allegations - news.com.au

Jonathan Van Ness slammed the bombshell report claiming they were emotionally “abusive” on the set of Queer Eye as being not “based in reality” nearly four months after the piece was first published.

“I think a lot of people were like looking for a reason to hate me or like looking for a reason to be like, ‘See, I always knew that they were a fake c**t and this is the proof,’” the reality star, who goes by they/he/she pronouns, said on the Table Manners with Jessie and Lennie Ware podcast Tuesday.

“My family was so supportive of my husband and my team, but I didn’t even get on social media or, like, look at my phone for three weeks.”

Van Ness, 37, said they and their Queer Eye castmates first learned of the investigative profile in December 2023, and claimed that a lot of the information gathered was “taken out of context” to make them look “as bad as possible.”

“I think people forget no matter how famous you are you’re still a person,” the TV personality added.

“That article came at like an incredibly vulnerable time, like for my hair care company, for like my whole career. It just was really rough.”

Van Ness then said that the article was “overwhelmingly untrue” and allegedly done “in bad faith,” but admitted that there may have been times when they snapped at people or “could have been better.”

In March, Rolling Stone published the damning exposé, which accused Van Ness of “rage issues.”

Seven production sources who spoke to the outlet claimed the hairstylist’s behind-the-scenes behaviour contributed to the rift within the original Fab Five, alleging Van Ness would lash out at crew members.

“He didn’t want to ever share the spotlight with anyone. There were times when we couldn’t even shoot scenes with certain members of the Fab Five together because it got so bad,” one insider said, referencing Van Ness’ co-stars Tan France, Antoni Porowski, Karamo Brown and Bobby Berk, who has since left the show.

Others described Van Ness as a “monster,” “nightmare” and “demeaning.”

“[There’s] a real emotion of fear around them when they get angry. It’s almost like a cartoon where it oozes out of them,” one source explained.

“It’s intense and scary,” they went on, noting that Van Ness was a “yeller” who would explode at least once a week. Another source said there was always “tension” on the set, particularly with Van Ness.

“When he comes on set, everything changes if he’s in a bad mood,” they explained. “Working with him is very difficult in any capacity.”

The allegations starkly contrast Van Ness’ public persona, which made them a fan favourite among viewers of the Netflix hit.

“Jonathan’s a person who contains multitudes and who has the capacity to be very warm, very charismatic, and has the capacity to make you feel really special that they are paying attention to you,” one source said.

“But at least once a day, they would need to yell at somebody. It might be something small, but there’s always going to be somebody to point out and blame and make the villain of the day.”

A separate production source described the Cosmopolitan cover star, who has become a pioneer for trans rights issues, as “hypocritical.”

“As much good as he wants to do in the world, I think a lot of it is very hypocritical,” the source said.

“There’s a definite contrast between the principles and the values that Jonathan stands for publicly. They’re really centered around having this warmth, love, and care for other people.

“There’s a real contrast between that and the way that they treat the people who are closest to them across the board. It’s the opposite of what this person is touted and paid to be.”

Berk, 42, who was the show’s design expert, announced his departure from the series in 2023 after eight seasons and later confirmed he had tension with France, 41.

However, the British fashion designer disputed the claim made in Rolling Stone’s piece that alleged he campaigned to get Berk fired in order to get his pal Jeremiah Brent the job.

France is not the only person to attempt to poke holes in the scandalous report, though.

More Coverage

Several former participants — dubbed “Hometown Heroes” — came forward to defend Van Ness, claiming they had always been “bright and nice” on set.

Queer Eye, which premiered in 2018, will return for a ninth season set in Las Vegas.

Casey Donovan’s huge life announcement - news.com.au

Casey Donovan has announced she is engaged to long-time girlfriend Renee Sharples.

The Aussie star took to Facebook to reveal that they had gotten engaged on last Friday, on June 21.

“21.06.24 on the strawberry moon of the winter solstice the love of my life asked me if I wanted to do this life together forever,” wrote the former Australia Idol winner.

“’The day I met you, home was no longer a place it became a person and yes, you are a gypsy but there’s nobody else I would rather attach my wagon to on this beautiful road trip called life and with that, I said yes!”

Some of the pair’s celebrity friends gushed over the news, with Ricki-Lee writing: “Congratulations gorgeous,” while Angela Bishop wrote: “How beautiful! Congratulations to you both.”

The happy couple first met back in 2020 after they matched on dating app Bumble while on lockdown amid the pandemic.

As a result, their first time meeting was over Zoom where they enjoyed a few virtual dates before getting the chance to meet up in person.

Donovan told Woman’s Day in a July 2021 interview that she had been nervous to start dating again after she was “catfished”.

It turns out that for many years she had been convinced she was in a relationship with a man named Campbell, who for it to turn out to have actually been a female friend that she had named “Olga”.

“It’s always nerve-racking because I do have a catfish background and I find it hard to trust people,” she admitted.

However, despite her initial trepidation, she revealed that Sharples had quickly put her mind at ease.

“It was so nice to know that our sense of humour was the same,” she said after their first online date. “We couldn’t wipe the smiles off our faces.”

Earlier this year, Casey confessed that she’s never been happier in her love life.

“I’m in a very happy secure place in my life,” the singer told The Daily Telegraph in March.

“It has taken me [time] to find the love of my life and to kiss a few frogs – and go through a very big part of my life that was challenging – to find confidence and happiness within myself.”

William’s awkward gaffe caught on camera - news.com.au

Warning: spoilers for The Fall Guy ahead

Prince William accidentally dropped a major movie spoiler while meeting the star of a new blockbuster release.

The future King of England, 42, was filmed meeting British actress Hannah Waddingham in London, where he complimented her on her role in the Ryan Gosling-led movie, The Fall Guy, which hit cinemas in late April.

During their brief encounter, William told Waddingham she played a “good baddie”, referencing a plot twist involving her character Gail Meyer.

“Congratulations on The Fall Guy, I thought you were brilliant. Very good baddie. You make a good baddie,” the Prince of Wales laughed, prompting Waddingham to playfully tell him off.

“Spoiler alert!” Waddingham, 49, responded. “Don’t say that!”

“Oh sorry, I can’t say that,” William added. “(I) take it away,” he laughed.

While The Fall Guy came out two months ago, it’s not yet finished its cinema run.

At the end of the film, which is based around a movie set, stunt man Colt (Gosling) and on-off director girlfriend Jody (Emily Blunt) are stunned to discover executive producer Gail (Waddingham) was at the centre of a plot to pin a host of criminal misdeeds on Colt.

Meanwhile, William and Waddingham were both attending the inaugural Earthshot Prize Innovation Camp in London on Thursday, where they joined a panel discussion.

The debut event aimed to celebrate the impact finalists in the Earthshot Prize awards have had on combating climate change.

The Earthshot Prize awards were launched by William and Sir David Attenborough in 2020, with five awards presented to individuals or organisations who significantly help the environment.

The award ceremony has been held in a different city each year since its inception, kicking off in London in 2021.

It was then hosted in Boston in 2022, Singapore in 2023 and is set to be held in South Africa this November.
