“Ever since picking up that virus, I’ve been to the doctor several times and he said because I’ve been pushing myself every day, after the show all I’ve been doing is sleeping and I’m not getting better,” Henderson told listeners on Monday morning.
“I feel it’s got worse. I can hear it,” co-host Sandilands told her.
“I just have to take some time off,” she replied.
“I’m ending the show today. As in now.”
“You know how much this show means to me,” she continued.
“You know how much I push through everything, and I would not be doing this unless I absolutely had to.
“Without going into detail, I’m fine. I just ...” she said, before Sandilands interrupted.
“Are you dying? You have cancer?” he asked.
Henderson said she wasn’t dying, but just needed to follow her doctor’s orders for “proper, serious rest”.
“He basically said, ‘If you keep doing this, this is going to get much worse,’ and I’ve taken his advice,” she added.
“I rarely take doctors’ advice, I’m usually like, ‘Nah, it’ll be fine’. But at least I will be all better and back with you guys soon.”

‘Struggling’
After Henderson said her goodbyes, co-host Sandilands joked that he feel’s like “I’ve been broken up with”.
The radio duo has been working together on their hit show since 2005.
Sunrise entertainment editor Peter Ford said on the breakfast show this morning that “if you have been listening to (Henderson) on air for weeks you could just tell, she was struggling”.
“And she’s someone who plows through everything,” he said.
“Doctors have told her, you’ve got to stop completely, you’ve got to get some decent rest and obviously the early mornings of doing breakfast radio are not conducive to getting proper rest.”
Addressing how long Henderson will be absent from the show, Ford interpreted “a couple of weeks” as the rest of this year.
ARN, the parent company of KIISFM, told 7Entertainment that “regular listeners of the Kyle & Jackie O show will know that Jackie has been struggling with fatigue and illness since having Covid, so on her doctor’s advice she is taking a couple of weeks off to rest and properly recover.
“Jackie will be back on board as soon as she’s feeling better,” the statement continued.
“In the meantime, Life Uncut’s Brittany Hockley will be joining Kyle, Brooklyn and the KJ team each weekday morning.”
Henderson’s departure comes weeks after she and Sandilands were inducted into the Hall of Fame at the Australian Commercial Radio Awards.
The pair also won the Best On-Air Team award in the FM category - holding the record for the most wins in this category.
