Harvey Weinstein: Former employees of The Weinstein Company to receive compensation - NEWS.com.au

A number of women who suffered harassment while working for convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein’s production company are set to receive part of a $27.5 million payout.

The payout is part of a deal brokered by the New York State Attorney-General’s office in its class action lawsuit against The Weinstein Company.

Former employees of the production company who “experienced a hostile work environment, sexual harassment and gender-based discrimination” are eligible for part of the compensation fund, according to a press release from New York Attorney-General Letitia James’ office.

The agreement still needs to be approved by the district court presiding over the case.

In addition to the payout, the AG’s office said the agreement will wipe out any confidentiality or nondisclosure agreements Weinstein’s victims signed with the company of any of its former reps.

The AG’s office filed the suit against Weinstein, his brother Bob Weinstein and the film production company in February 2018.

The suit accused Weinstein and his ex-business-partner brother of violating numerous state codes against sexual harassment, intimidation and other workplace safety protections.

The AG’s office has said there was a clear paper trail of on-the-record complaints to the company’s human resources department that were simply ignored.

For years, assistants working for Weinstein “were exposed to and required to facilitate” sexual encounters for him “as a condition of employment,” the office has said.

“Harvey Weinstein and The Weinstein Company failed their female employees,” Ms James said in a statement. “After all the harassment, threats and discrimination, these survivors are finally receiving some justice.”

But a lawyer representing six women who worked for Weinstein blasted the proposed settlement as “a complete sellout”.

“We are surprised that the Attorney-General could somehow boast about a proposal that fails on so many different levels,” said Douglas Wigdor of Wigdor LLP.

The lawyer listed five grievances, including how within the proposed settlement Weinstein “accepts no responsibility for his actions” and isn’t paying a dime of his own money towards the settlement.

In March, the disgraced movie mogul was sentenced to 23 years in prison after a Manhattan jury found him guilty of forcibly performing oral sex on former Project Runway staffer Miriam “Mimi” Haleyi in 2006 and raping hairstylist Jessica Mann in 2013.

More than 100 women have accused the fallen Tinseltown tycoon of harassment and sexual misconduct.

August Alsina claims Will Smith gave blessing for him to have affair with Jada Pinkett Smith - NEWS.com.au

Singer August Alsina claims he had an affair with Jada Pinkett Smith – after her husband, Will Smith, allegedly gave the relationship his blessing.

While reps for Pinkett Smith said Alsina’s claims are “absolutely not true,” Alsina has opened up on the alleged affair in an interview with The Breakfast Club’s Angela Yee.

He said: “I actually sat down with Will (Smith) and had a conversation due to the transformation from their marriage to life partnership … he gave me his blessing.”

Alsina, 27, was introduced to Pinkett Smith, 48, in 2015 by her son Jaden. He said the two became very close, even holidaying with the Smith family in Hawaii in 2016 and attending the 2017 BET Awards together.

He claims he fell in love with Pinkett Smith.

“I totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life, and I truly and really, really deeply love and have a ton of love for her. I devoted myself to it, I gave my full self to it – so much so to the point that I can die right now and be OK with knowing that I truly gave myself to somebody,” he said.

“And I really loved a person, I experienced that and I know what that feels like – and some people never get that in this lifetime. I know that I am completely blessed and this conversation is difficult because it is so much, that it would be hard for people to understand but, once it starts to affect me and my livelihood, I have to speak up about my truth.”

Alsina even went on to describe Pinkett Smith as “God’s divinity” on her 47th birthday. It is not clear when their alleged affair ended.

The interview is for Alsina’s new YouTube documentary StateofEMERGEncy: The Rise of August Alsina to promote his new album The Product III:stateofEMERGEncy.

During the interview, Yee questioned, “Is it disappointing that she (Pinkett Smith) never addressed it to you, because like you said, you lost out on opportunities?”

“I really can’t even get into the thought of that because I am only responsible for myself, right,” Alsina replied. “And I am only responsible for, you know, what I do. When I am repressing and suppressing things and it starts to affect me, I have to address it. I just always stay solid because I never want to be the person to start confusion.”

There was speculation that Alsina’s 2009 song “Nunya” wasabout Pinkett Smith. It had lines like: “Why is you textin me / Asking who next to me / Why you care about who having sex with me / Now you all on my line, why you pressing me?”

During the interview Alsina also revealed, “Contrary to what people may believe, I am not a troublemaker. I don’t like drama. Drama actually makes me nauseous.

“And I also don’t think that it is ever important for people to know what I do, who I sleep with, who I date … but in this instance it is very different because as I said, there are so many people that are side-eyeing me, looking at me questionable (sic).

“I have lost money, friendships, relationships behind it and I think it is because people don’t necessarily know the truth. But I have never done anything wrong.”

He added of the Smith family, “I love those people literally like my family. I don’t have a bad thing to say about them. They are beautiful people.”

We reached out to Jada Pinkett Smith’s representative, who responded, “Absolutely not true!”

Mark Wahlberg reveals test results: ‘I’m allergic to everything’ - NEWS.com.au

Mark Wahlberg has revealed he underwent a battery of allergy tests only to discover that at the age of 49 he is “allergic to almost everything”.

The actor shared a picture of his back after the test, with a number of raised red bumps, indicating an allergic reaction.

He captioned the snap: “It only took me 49 years to realise I’m allergic to almost everything.”

Fans commented on the picture, and many suggested that he had encouraged them to get their own tests done.

The Hollywood star, known for his love of eye-wateringly early 2am workouts, recently showed off the latest results of an intense exercise regimen in new topless photos.

Perhaps inspired by his allergy issues, Mark, 49, took to Instagram to explain how he’d been immersed in “six months of performance-inspired nutrition”.

This was coupled with Aquahydrate and F45 training – the latter of which is focused on functional workouts and circuit training.

In his caption, he shared further secrets to his muscular shape, writing: “Clean eating.

“Inspired to be better team training/life changing.”

Earlier this year, Mark was answering questions from fans on Instagram and shared a snapshot of what his typical schedule looks like.

The Fighter star said he rises at 2.30am, prays and has his first meal of the day at 3.15am.

He then works out from 3.40-5.15am – when most people still aren’t even up.

His whole day is then filled with fitness and refuelling, making for a very active 24 hours.

The star recently spoke about the benefits of cryotherapy, a treatment he swears by daily, to Ellen DeGeneres, saying: “It is great for recovery, and it just takes all the inflammation out of your body (and) it helps you sleep.”

Shock as Big Brother cameras turned off and show suspended as coronavirus hits - PerthNow

Fans of Seven’s Big Brother have had their first look at how the reality show dealt with a COVID-19 scare.

The reality reboot was almost entirely pre-recorded, and housemates were already well into the game, when the coronavirus pandemic hit its peak in Australia.

But housemates had to be informed that the game they had been playing would be suspended, along with manned filming after a crew member came into contact with a confirmed COVID-19 infection.

There’s something going on.

In a preview of Sunday’s episode — where housemates will finally be informed of the growing health crisis going on outside their secure facility — housemates cotton on to the odd behaviour of the ever-watchful cameras.

“While they’ve been cut off from the world, the world outside has changed,” the promo begins.

Contestant Sophie Budack is seemingly the first to notice the beginnings of a shutdown, alerting her housemates to the constant cameras disappearing from set.

“There’s something going on,” Budack tells her fellow housemates.

“None of the cameras are following anywhere.”

The top nine contestants then get beckoned to the diary room, where Big Brother informs them of the pandemic in real time.

But producers will still manage to string together an episode despite having to put the game on pause, thanks to a number of rigged automatic cameras.

Behind the scenes a skeleton staff remained while the remainder of the crew left the set as a precaution.

The Grammy-nominated artist joked that she was trying to get them to call her 'Lovey' instead, which is the nickname given to Kardashian 'momager' Kris Jenner by her grandchildren.

She also revealed on the podcast that her other adopted son 'recently came out', adding: 'He's just blossoming and is the light of my life... I love him so much.'

Sia first announced she had adopted two sons during an interview with SiriusXM in late May.

The musician, who almost always covers her face in public to maintain her anonymity, smiled as she expressed her love for her new family.

'I adopted two sons last year. They were 18, they're both 19 years old now. They were ageing out of the foster care system and yeah, I love them,' she explained.

The Adelaide-born singer did not reveal their names nor discuss them further.

'I'm embarrassed that it took me to adopt two black sons to really understand what they go through on a daily basis,' Sia said.

She admitted she was 'very scared' for her children, and had to show tough love to the teenagers when they weren't being transparent with her.

'I'd say, "I'm doing this because I'm your mother. I love you,"' she explained.

Sia also recalled one emotional conversation she had with her children, in which she told them: 'I don't want to see you in prison.

'With your history and the colour of your skin, I don't want to see you as that five percent that ends up in prison for life. I don't want that for you.'

Speaking to The Kyle and Jackie O Show last month, the notoriously private star said of her adopted kids: 'They had extremely traumatic lives and I had the resources to adopt them.

'These boys both had lived in about 18 homes each in their 18 years and never had any stability.

'They had extremely traumatic lives and I had the resources to adopt them and give them the resources to deal with their trauma and any therapy for their problems and the difficulty they've faced.'

Sia said that being 'newly rich' was 'really weird and fun' and had given her opportunities to help others.

Why Paris Jackson worth $100m was ‘living in boyfriend’s van’ - NEWS.com.au

Paris Jackson has admitted “a week” after meeting her boyfriend, Gabriel Glenn, she was living in his van.

The couple have been together for more than a year.

In the Facebook Watch series, Unfiltered: Paris Jackson And Gabriel Glenn, Gabriel said of their first meeting: “We went from The Rainbow to an after-party and that’s where I saw her playing an unplugged guitar.

“It felt very intimate and I knew that I was … I was walking towards a head over heel fall.”

Paris, the daughter of late music icon Michael Jackson, said: “From then on, it was pretty much on.

“We immediately just vibed – spent three days straight together.”

She said: “Within a week, I was living in his van.”

The couple initially met through mutual friends, but they got together after a jam session for Gabriel’s band.

They hit it off right away discussing the songs they were producing and collaborating on music.

They went public with their relationship last February and were soon attending industry premieres, galas and even doing a couple’s costume for Paris’ Halloween party.

The couple created their music group The Soundflowers and just recently dropped their debut EP.

Their new digital series will take fans inside the early days of their relationship and show how they’ve been writing music together.

New episodes air every Tuesday on Facebook.

HOW MUCH PARIS IS WORTH

Said to be worth at least $US100 million ($A145 million), a huge chunk of Paris’ cashflow comes from the 2016 sale by the Michael Jackson estate of his 50 per cent stake in the Sony/ATV music publishing company. His stake in the company meant he owned the rights to a vast number of popular songs, including those of his old duet partner Paul McCartney.

Jackson’s stake in the publishing company was bought back by Sony in 2016 for an incredible $US750 million. At the time of the sale, the estate’s executers said it was to maximise “the value of Michael’s estate for the benefit of his children.”

It’s understood that, having received some of her inheritance when she turned 18, Jackson will receive her next big chunk of money when she turns 30. Her brothers Prince and Blanket will inherit their shares at the same age.

Johnny Depp hid texts asking assistant to buy him cocaine, ecstasy: UK court finds - NEWS.com.au

Johnny Depp violated a UK court order by failing to disclose damning text messages that appeared to show him ordering drugs, a judge has ruled.

The Hollywood actor’s legal team was ordered to hand over all the documents submitted in his US libel case against ex-wife Amber Heard as part of a separate UK lawsuit, this time against The Sun newspaper.

But Depp failed to disclose a series of text messages with an assistant showing that he tried to buy “MDMA and other narcotics” while he was in Australia with Heard in 2015, London’s High Court ruled.

“Need more whitey stuff ASAP brotherman … and the e-business!!! Please I’m in a bad bad shape,” he wrote in one message that was included in court documents, according to The Guardian.

In another, he told the assistant, “We should have more happy pills!!!?? Can you???”

Depp then texted, “Say NOTHING to NOBODY!!!!” according to the report.

The Sun argued the messages were crucial in casting doubt on the actor’s insistence he did not take drugs prior to an argument with Heard, during which she says he attacked her. The texts with his then assistant, Nathan Holmes, in early 2015 were just before he is accused of the attack.

Judge Andrew Nicol on Monday ruled that Depp had violated the court’s order and “failed to comply fully with (his) obligation” by withholding “the Australian drug texts”.

However, he declined to strike out the case immediately and deferred his decision on the lawsuit’s fate.

Depp’s lawyer, David Sherborne, said it would be “wholly disproportionate” to scuttle the case over the 2018 article in which The Sun referred to Depp as a “wife beater,” claims he strenuously denies.

“The central matter in dispute in these proceedings is whether or not the claimant committed multiple acts of serious unprovoked physical violence during his relationship with Amber Heard, causing her significant injuries and to be put in fear for her life,” Mr Sherborne said.

“It is now time for the defendants to have to prove what they published.”

Mr Sherborne also argued that Heard’s claims were undermined by the fact that she had had affairs with Space X founder Elon Musk and actor James Franco while she was involved with Depp.

“Given that her case is that she was controlled and abused by the claimant and that she could not possibly have left him, that does not sit at all with the fact that she was having multiple affairs,” the lawyer said.

Depp and Heard are both expected to give evidence in person at the London trial, which was postponed from March because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The couple met on the set of the 2011 comedy The Rum Diary and married in Los Angeles in February 2015. They divorced in 2017.

Each accuses the other of being abusive, and Depp is also suing Heard for libel in the United States.

Mark Hamill describes Star Wars scenes that he regrets were cut - NEWS.com.au

Mark Hamill discussed two critical scenes cut from the original Star Wars trilogy that he still regrets never made it into the final version of the movies.

The 68-year-old actor appeared on the Russo Brothers’ Pizza Film School, a show the Avengers directors created to discuss the art of film during the coronavirus pandemic.

In the latest episode, Hamill was on hand to discuss the second movie in the trilogy, The Empire Strikes Back. He noted that his character, Luke Skywalker, is introduced in an organic way in that movie, and noted that his original introduction was cut in the first and third films, A New Hope and Return Of The Jedi respectively.

In Return Of The Jedi, Luke was originally meant to be seen for the first time assembling his new green lightsaber in a cave, before going to rescue Han Solo from Jabba the Hut. Hamill said he didn’t quite mind that scene ending up on the cutting room floor, but still laments the loss of Luke’s first introduction in A New Hope.

His very first introduction, which these days is actually available on Disney+, sees Luke working on a rig in the middle of the desert when he looks up in the sky and notices the battle going on as Darth Vader pursues Princess Leia, who sends droids C-3PO and R2-D2 to Luke’s planet.

Luke then goes to a local hangout to tell his peers what he’s seen.

“There are a couple of things that are good for the character,” Hamill told the hosts. “Number one, he is ridiculed roundly by his peers. So he’s not particularly cool or popular. Koo Stark is the only other female actor in the movie … and she calls me ‘Wormie’. So I am not popular, and then I bump into Biggs Darklighter, played by Garrick Hagon, and I go ‘Wow!’ You can see we’re good friends. He’s dressed in an Imperial uniform and I’m going, ‘Wow! That’s so great! I can’t wait until I can get off the dump of a planet and join with you.’ And he takes me outside and says, ‘Luke, as soon as I get the chance, I am going to jump ship and join the Rebels.’”

RELATED: Mark Hamill ‘hopes’ he’s done after The Rise of Skywalker

Hamill added: “The only reason that is interesting to me is that Luke has no political persuasion. He thinks it’s great he is in the Empire. Luke wants to be in the Empire if it will get him off the farm. So he is completely pure in that he is not politically motivated in any way, shape or form.”

In addition to giving the audience a better understanding of who Luke Skywalker is before he goes off on his epic adventure, Hamill explains that the original opening inferred the famous climax.

“In the final assault on the Death Star, we’re getting picked off left and right … but the thing that motivates me to turn off the targeting device, and rely completely on the Force, is the death of Biggs Darklighter,” he said. “It was later that they decided to dub in Obi Wan’s voice saying, ‘Luke, use the Force’ and that’s when he decides.”

Hamill returned to the franchise after decades away, when director J.J. Abrams revived the series in 2015 with Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Kate Middleton warned Prince Harry not to rush to marry Meghan - 9Honey

Before Prince Harry met Meghan Markle, he and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were a comfortable trio.

The group regularly attended royal engagements together and Harry's closeness with his brother and sister-in-law was apparent.

Now, a new book claims Kate Middleton warned Prince Harry not to rush his relationship with Meghan.

Investigative journalists Dylan Howard and Andy Tillett claim in Royals At War: The Inside Story of Harry and Meghan's Shocking Split With the House of Windsor that both William and Kate advised the younger royal to slow down and not rush to marriage.

The book authors claim Harry wasn't happy with the advice and this planted the seeds of the eventual rift that would see the Duke and Duchess of Sussex resign as senior members of the British royal family in 2020.

"The rifts that eventually opened up in the Royal family after Meghan arrived could have been avoided if Harry was able to empathise and take his brother's concerns in the spirit they were intended," they write.

Of Kate's advice, they write: "She gently reminded him that he was dating someone with a completely different life, past, and career and it would take time, care and attention for them to integrate."

Harry and Meghan reportedly met on a blind date in 2016, where engaged in 2017 and married in 2018.

Now that the couple have moved to the US permanently with their son Archie, the relationship between William and Harry is more fractured than ever.

"They didn't leave on good terms by any means, but they are both relieved that it's over," a family friend tells PEOPLE magazine.

The book, which is out now, also claims Prince Harry is struggling to adjust to his new life in LA, with the authors claiming Harry is feeling "secretly tortured" over his decision to leave the royal family, particularly during the coronavirus crisis and after Prince Charles, 71, tested positive to the virus in March.

Adam Savage of Mythbusters allegedly raped sister as a child: lawsuit - NEWS.com.au

Former Mythbusters co-host Adam Savage allegedly sexually abused his younger sister for years while calling himself the “raping blob” during the late 1970s, the woman claims in a lawsuit filed on Tuesday.

Miranda Pacchiana, 51, claims the abuse happened when she was between seven and 10 years old when the siblings lived in Sleepy Hollow, New York.

“Beginning in or about 1976 and continuing until approximately 1979, Adam Savage, would repeatedly rape Miranda Pacchiana and force oral sex upon her, and forced Miranda to perform oral sex on him, along with other forms of sexual abuse,” says her lawsuit, filed in Westchester Supreme Court.

The suit says Savage, who was between nine and 12 years old at the time, would prevent Pacchiana from leaving the bed and anally rape her.

He allegedly nicknamed himself the “raping blob” while masking the abuse as a game, according to the complaint.

The 52-year-old special effects whiz is best known as the former co-host of Mythbusters, a Discovery Channel series that tests the validity of popular myths and legends.

Pacchiana is a social worker who blogged about losing her family after coming forward about the alleged sexual abuse.

“When I first disclosed to my family that my brother had abused me as a child, I thought my whole world would change,” she wrote. “I assumed my family members would share my desire to examine what had gone wrong in our home and pursue a path toward healing together. I was sadly mistaken.

“In fact, their behaviours left me feeling as though the abuse didn’t really matter,” she said. “Yes, they believed me – but my family members still seemed determined to brush my trauma under the rug. Over time, I came to realise they viewed me as the problem for focusing on the abuse. Not the brother who had abused me.”

Pacchiana filed her lawsuit under the New York Child Victims Act, which opened a one-year look-back period for victims to bring claims that had already exceeded the statute of limitations. In May, the original deadline, which was set in August, was extended by five months due to coronavirus.

“The prolific abuse by Mr Savage as alleged in the Complaint has caused irreparable damage to my client that she will live with for the rest of her life,” Pacchiana’s lawyer Jordan Merson said in a statement. “Today is the first step in the direction of healing and justice.”

Savage denied his sister’s allegations in a statement through his lawyer Andrew Brettler.

“While I hope that my sister gets the help she needs to find peace, this needs to end. For many years, she has relentlessly and falsely attacked me and other members of my family to anyone who will listen,” Savage said. “By spreading numerous untrue stories about us in pursuit of a financial bonanza, she has tortured our entire family and estranged herself from all of us. I will fight this groundless and offensive lawsuit and work to put this to rest once and for all.”

Game of Thrones: David Benioff’s wife Amanda Peet defends controversial series finale - NEWS.com.au

The Game of Thrones finale drew quite a bit of heat from viewers, but it has at least one big fan in actress Amanda Peet.

Peet, 48, has been married to GoT co-creator David Benioff since 2006, and she threw her husband some support during a recent virtual chat with Andy Cohen for Watch What Happens Live.

When asked what she thought of the finale, Peet pointed across the room and said: “I mean, (Benioff)’s right there.”

“I had read it and I loved it when I read it and I continue to stand by it,” she explained.

“I just feel like maybe some people didn’t want to say goodbye, I don’t know. Look, maybe I’m just too close to it.”

She added: “But I didn’t understand the blowback. For God’s sake, people, it’s a television show!”

The final season of GoT finished airing just over a year ago and left many fans with complaints of an unsatisfying ending, leading to some even creating an online petition for rewrites.

Since then, a handful of individuals involved with the show have spoken out against the backlash, including Carice van Houten, the actress behind Melisandre.

“The fact that some people were so disappointed is because everything before that was so good,” the 43-year-old actress said, noting that fans’ high expectations and the following disdain for the season felt somewhat unfair,” van Houten said.

“So it feels a bit ungrateful,” she added.

“You’ve had such great times and then yeah, you’re going to be disappointed because it’s not going to go exactly how you anticipated.”

Despite flack from fans, the final season of the show broke the record for the most Emmy nominations in a single year, winning several, including outstanding drama series.

Carl Reiner, US comedian, actor and director, dies aged 98 - ABC News

Carl Reiner, a driving force in American comedy since the 1950s, has died aged 98 at his home in California.

Reiner's career spanned seven decades and every medium from theatre and audio recordings to television and movies.

His film credits included directing George Burns in 1977's Oh, God! and Steve Martin in The Jerk, Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid and The Man with Two Brains.

He later appeared as an elderly con man in the 2001 remake of Ocean's Eleven.

He was a frequent partner of fellow US comedy great Mel Brooks as well creating and co-starring in the classic US TV sitcom The Dick Van Dyke Show.

He was still taking voice acting roles in his 90s and had a key role in If You're Not in the Obit, Eat Breakfast, a documentary about people who keep busy into their 90s.

Reiner's assistant Judy Nagy said he died on Monday night of natural causes, in his Beverly Hills home.

Reiner is survived by three children, including Rob Reiner, director of several hit movies and known for playing Archie Bunker's son-in-law Meathead in the hit TV comedy All in the Family.

Reiner's wife of 64 years, Estelle, died in 2008.

Reiner expressed his approach to his work in his book My Anecdotal Life, when he said, "Inviting people to laugh at you while you are laughing at yourself is a good thing to do. You may be the fool but you are the fool in charge."

Reiner, the Bronx-born son of a watchmaker, started in entertainment as a teenager in a touring theatre troupe that performed Shakespearean plays.

But his career took a decisive turn after he joined the Army Signal Corps during World War II.

Recruited into a special unit that put on shows for the troops, Reiner began writing and performing his own comedy material.

Returning to New York City after the war, Reiner appeared in several Broadway musicals, including a lead in Call Me Mister, before he was hired to join Caesar's popular TV sketch comedy series Your Show of Shows in the 1950s.

Reiner was part of Caesar's ensemble of performers as well as a celebrated writing team that included such then-unknown talents as Brooks, Neil Simon and Larry Gelbart.

Reiner and Brooks remained close into their late 90s with Reiner telling USA Today in 2019 that they got together regularly to watch game shows and movies.

Brooks joined Reiner in creating the 2,000-Year-Old Man routine in which Reiner interviewed the world's oldest living man, played by Brooks, who deadpans satiric, first-person anecdotes of history in a thick Jewish accent.

Originally ad-libbed by Reiner and Brooks at a party, the sketch evolved into a perennial TV favourite and basis for five comedy albums, the latest of which earned a 1998 Grammy Award.

He also won Emmys for his work on Caesar's Hour, Mad About You and The Dick Van Dyke Show.

Carl Reiner dead at 98: Ocean’s Eleven star dies at home - NEWS.com.au

Hollywood legend Carl Reiner has passed away at home of natural causes, age 98.

Reiner’s assistant Judy Nagy confirmed the news to Variety after reports he had died in Beverly Hills with his family close by.

The producer, director, comedian and Hollywood legend had won a Grammy award and nine Emmy’s over seven decades in the industry.

One of his final messages posted on Twitter was a sweet tribute to his wife and three children, Rob, Annie and Lucas Reiner.

“Nothing pleases me more than knowing that I have lived the best life possible by having met & marrying the gifted Estelle (Stella) Lebost---who partnered with me in bringing Rob, Annie & Lucas Reiner into to this needy & evolving world,” he wrote.

Reiner was born in The Bronx, New York to parents Bessie Mathias and Irving Reiner, a watchmaker, on 20 March 1922.

His father was an Austrian Jewish immigrant and his mother was a Romanian Jewish immigrant, IMDB reports.

The prolific comedian, actor, screenwriter and director’s career started with groundbreaking work in live television classics such as Your Show of Shows.

He made a best-selling album with Mel Brooks called 2000 Years with Carl Reiner and Mel Brooks which earned a Grammy nomination and ignited his writing career.

He first became a director on The Dick Van Dyke Show and went on to direct comedies, Oh God, with George Burns in 1977 and The Jerk, with Steve Martin in 1979, gaining more than 400 credits in his career.

He was awarded the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor in 2000 and in 2001 starred in the remake of Ocean’s Eleven along with the two sequels, Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s Thirteen.

He was an avid Twitter user and had frequently posted updates from his life and memories during lockdown, including that he was making a book of his family’s artwork.

He was a vocal critic of President Trump and recently tweeted the Michelle Obama would be his pick for vice president as Joe Biden’s running mate.

Before his years in the entertainment industry, Reiner, a Georgetown University graduate, served his country in World War II, an experience documented in the 2018 PBS documentary “GI Jews: Jewish Americans in World War II.

“I was sleeping on an upper bed when I heard a voice from the other side of the room,” Reiner told The Post at the time, slipping into a thick Southern accent.

“‘Reiner? Are you a Jewwww?’ I said, ‘Yes, why do you ask?’ He says, ‘Do you know a man named Goldfarb?’ I said, ‘No, where is he from?’ He says, ‘He’s from Shreveport. He owns a grocery store. He ain’t a bad guy. You don’t know him?’ He figured all Jews knew each other.

In the foreword of his 2012 memoir, “I Remember Me,” actor and comedian Billy Crystal wrote that Reiner “is not just a funny man who has made us laugh in one form or another for a very long time.”

“He has been comedy’s North Star. A constant. I’ve always looked at his career as one of the best ever and most important,” wrote Crystal who called Reiner “a nice genius” and “one of the great sketch comedians of all time.”

Big Brother 2020: Stars shocked as house goes into lockdown - NEWS.com.au

A dramatic promo for Sunday’s episode of Big Brother shows the contestants being sent into lockdown as a crew member is tested for COVID-19.

The housemates — who are usually kept in the dark about the goings-on of the outside world — were informed about the escalating pandemic in early March off-camera during filming for the prerecorded season, given the global health crisis was in its early days when the contestants first arrived to set.

In the latest promo for Sunday night’s episode, the contestants are told about a crew member coming into contact with a positive case, with the crew distanced from the set as lockdown measures come into play.

RELATED: How housemates reacted to coronavirus pandemic update

Bringing the contestants together to the diary room, Big Brother is heard telling the confused cast: “Big Brother has been made aware that a crew member has come into contact with a confirmed coronavirus case. The Big Brother house will be placed in lockdown, and the game will be suspended.”

In snippets from the episode, cameras are pulled from the walls of the house as the housemates puzzle over the news.

In March, An Endemol Shine Australia spokesperson shared the news of the crew member in a statement.

“We have been made aware that a Big Brother crew member has been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19,” it said,

“The crew member is currently feeling well and showing no symptoms of the virus, however, is being tested and is now self-isolating.

“We continue to work within all Federal and State guidelines and will always make the health, safety and wellbeing of our cast and crew our number one priority. Housemates have been brought up to date with the current situation,” the spokesperson said.

According to The Australian’s Media Diary, housemates had limited access to mobile phones and information about the outside world in the house, so were unaware how much the coronavirus outbreak had escalated until they were informed by producers.

Recently-evicted contestant Shane Vincent shed light on the moment they all found out, sharing that the stars of the show were only made aware of the crisis after they saw these strange messages appear in the sky.

Vincent told Daily Mail Australia: “We didn’t know anything about what was going on in the outside (world), we were sitting in the backyard one day and you know the skywriters, they were above us and writing like ‘stop (the) F1’.

“And we were like, ‘what the hell is going on?!’”

The reality star continued: “And the next day, a skywriter came up and said, ‘wash your hands’ in the sky. And we were like, ‘wash your hands? What is going on out there?’

“A couple of days later, we had a meeting and they told us about COVID-19,” he said.

Sonia Kruger spoke on Sunrise in March to confirm the contestants had been told about the virus, joking that they were concerned the football codes may not go ahead.

Kruger said the housemates were “shocked, as most people would be learning the news about a worldwide pandemic”, adding that they “were really quite concerned to hear about the football codes, NRL and AFL, potentially not going ahead”.

Commenting on why the moment was not filmed by producers, she said: “We felt it was probably better to do it this way.”

Big Brother continues on Sunday from 7pm on Channel 7.

MasterChef 2020: Viewers spot ‘love bite’ on Reynold Poernomo’s neck - NEWS.com.au

He’s this year’s MasterChef frontrunner affectionately dubbed the “Dessert King” by fans.

And while tonight, Reynold Poernomo’s performance in the kitchen was no exception to his impressive display this season, it was a rather risque detail that had fans talking.

Taking to Twitter, many thought they noticed a love bite on the left side of the 26-year-old restaurant owner’s neck.

You be the judge:

The mark — which looked like a small bruise — was even spotted by some eagle-eyed viewers in Monday night’s episode, but was much more prominent on Tuesday.

It certainly had fans flocking to speculate:

According to Mamamia, and judging by his Instagram page, Reynold has been with his partner Chelia Dinata since 2017.

Dinata, according to the publication, is currently living in Bali after finishing a university degree at UNSW.

Opening up about his love life last month, Reynold said that even before COVID-19 hit, maintaining a long-distance relationship was “tough”.

“It’s 100 per cent tough anyway, and then COVID-19 happened. I’m not even sure when I can next visit her now,” he told TV Week in May .

He added that he felt “pressure” for them to take the next step.

“There is pressure to get engaged. I definitely want to get married, but I have a checklist I must meet before I put a ring on her finger,” he explained.

“I have standards. I want to be financially stable, own multiple businesses and have my own house.”

Reynold, who owns Sydney restaurant Koi Dessert Bar, scored immunity on Tuesday, giving him an express pass to the top five.

His win came after an intense “lucky dip” style challenge in which contestants Poh Ling Yeow and Laura Sharrad had to blind select two ingredients to be celebrated in a main and dessert.

Landing dates and Portuguese fortified wine Madeira, Reynold’s super-sweet ingredient list looked set to let him down.

But thanks to a clever dessert (standard for the experimental chef) and a mushroom dish served with a date puree, he was granted immunity.

Meanwhile, Poh’s olive and quail-stuffed gnocchi was a let down, and Laura’s vanilla dessert overpowered by a brown bread crumb.

MasterChef: Back to Win continues Sunday night from 7.30 on Channel 10.

Big Brother 2020: James Weir recaps episode 12 | ‘Dumbest move’ causes Big Brother rift - NEWS.com.au

Trust is betrayed and secrets are exposed on Tuesday’s Big Brother when some incredibly stupid attempts at tactical gossiping end with everyone looking like an idiot and the popular boys losing patience with the girl who is now 27 days clinically constipated.

Now that Ange-a-licious is gone, it really is just the dumdums left. The purpose of this show is murky. Without her, it’s just hot people eating salad.

Dan’s upset and he misses his ex girlfriend who dumped him months ago.

“It’s a bit of a long story,” he sobs as Big Brother shuts off the camera to conserve battery for more interesting moments.

Finally, a better conversation is happening in the lounge room.

“At least the aircon’s good in here, eh?” Marissa drawls.

“It’s nice,” Mat mumbles.

“Isn’t it?”

“Yep.”

Unfortunately, this crackling dialogue is interrupted by the chick who dumped Dan. Producers make her Skype in on a large projector screen and we only pay attention because we’re hoping she dumps him again. I hope to one day dump someone on a large-scale projection screen.

“Do you still love me?” he sobs.

There’s silence.

“ … Yes?” she replies.

Well, way to make it awkward, Daniel. She dumped you and, for all we know, she Skyped in to dump you again – but now you’ve put her on the spot with this question and she has no other choice but to say yes.

JAMES WEIR RECAPS: Read all the Big Brother recaps here

Dan’s in a vulnerable place and Kieran decides to try take advantage of it. It’s a good idea. But Kieran lacks the nous that’s required to pull it off. Ange-a-licious is really the only housemate who would’ve been capable of exploiting Dan’s emotional state.

Kieran flops onto the couch next to Dan.

“I want Casey gone. Keep that between us, though,” he whispers.

“Of course,” Dan nods.

Dan runs over to Casey.

He tells Casey not to say anything under any circumstances and she agrees.

Casey stomps over to Kieran on the couch and demands to know why he’s targeting her. By the way, this is now her 27th day of clinical constipation, so you better believe she’s on edge.

“What’s your issue? Why do you want me gone so bad?” she spits.

“I don’t know why you would approach all my friends about getting rid of me and double crossing me. You’ve absolutely shot yourself in the foot with me. I’m pretty off it. You’ve gone against me. And I’m really pissed off about it.”

She makes this weird face and we think it’s partly because she’s being passive aggressive but mainly because she’s constipated.

Kieran can’t believe the boys – who he’s not even friends with – would betray his trust. And the boys are absolutely shocked Casey would go and betray their trust, too.

Wow. It’s almost like this is a competition with $250,000 on the line.

The boys are furious with Casey and begin hiding the Metamucil as payback.

“It’s one of the dumbest moves I’ve seen in a while. I’m pretty pissed off,” Xavier sighs, unsure of why Casey would just go detonate a bomb right before the nominations.

They’re all worried the messy web of betrayal will lead to Kieran nominating them as payback if he wins the next challenge. If he wins the next challenge? Guys. C’mon. Kieran will never win a challenge.

The challenge comes. The challenge goes. And Kieran does not win.

Dan and Xavier win and they nominate Sophie and Hannah to be eliminated.

Of course, our dark hearts want Sophie to go home just to destroy the annoyingly PG romance she shares with Chad.

Right before the votes are placed, Chad issues a threat.

“Vote Sophie out and I’ll get youse out,” he mumbles.

First of all, Chad, threats aren’t that menacing when they come from guys with cheek fillers who eat salad. Also, youse isn’t a word.

Of course, Hannah is eliminated – only because she has had zero impact on this series and everyone thought she had been evicted weeks ago.

Chad and Sophie live to mispronounce words together for a few more days.

Fine. Youse win this time.

Theatre producers in Tasmania vow the show will go on despite coronavirus - ABC News

When arts power couple Marta Dusseldorp and Ben Winspear started Archipelago Productions last year a global pandemic was not among the potential hurdles they considered.

The curtain was scheduled to go up on their first production The Bleeding Tree in the newly-built Hedberg Studio Theatre in Hobart when COVID-19 hit, and it had to be suspended.

"It was a year to organise and make sure we had some kind of funding sponsorship. That all went," Dusseldorp said.

"We decided we'd continue with some Zoom rehearsals, which went remarkably well actually."

The production has now moved to socially-distanced, in-person rehearsals this week, but there's still no firm date on when the cast will be able to raise the curtain.

"We're just slowly coming back," she said.

It's among the big-ticket productions that have been on hold in Hobart during the crisis.

The team behind the Rocky Horror Show have announced the $1 million production has been rescheduled from spring this year, to October 2021.

Producer and Tasmanian theatre stalwart John X said the size and nature of the show left them with no other choice.

"Ticket sales went berserk just before COVID-19 hit," he said.

"With social distancing, we just can't meet the demand for ticket sales, we need social distancing to be completely lifted."

He said a $1 million production of Rocky Horror would not have been worth staging with social-distancing measures in force.

"That kills any kind of atmosphere, and you need that in Rocky Horror," John X said.

"In other states a show like this would be done in an 1,800 to 2,000 seat theatre.

"We’ve got 700 seats only [at the Theatre Royal] and we really need to fill [all of them] to meet the budget.

"Getting as far away from this pandemic as we can when we put this show on is good."

Those with tickets will be able to use them for the same date in 2021.

"Everyone will be personally contacted and everyone can do what they want," he said.

"They can have a refund, they can keep their tickets, they can change their tickets, or they can have more tickets.

"We've been able to actually have extra shows as well, so there's a lot more scope."

Theatre Royal marketing and business development producer Tom Schoon said they'd been preparing to re-open since May.

"At the moment, because of social restrictions and social distancing, we can't really be open, it's not a financially viable option," he said.

"Health and safety is number one priority making sure the audience is safe but also the artists themselves as well, and obviously the staff.

"We've had to reschedule a lot of shows, but not many shows have had to cancel, which is such good news."

Government urged to understand the impact of culture

At Archipelago Productions, like so many creative companies, flexibility has been critical during the pandemic.

"We applied to adapt the play into a digital version, we don't want to give it away, so then we decided to make it into more of a promo clip," Dusseldorp said.

The production company is also adapting a book by Tasmanian author Favel Parrett into a film.

"It wasn't enough money to make proper film, so in a sense we're making it more experimental and artistic," Dusseldorp said.

"We've been really pushed into areas we're not that comfortable sitting, so I think there's a real opportunity here for artists.

"We've always wanted to be quite lithe, so this has added a nice string to our bow so we will see how that goes."

But she said if small production companies like theirs are to get back on stage they will need more government assistance.

That begins with being treated the same as other industries.

"I would love to say we could put on the play, and let the amount of people who are allowed in to come in, but then we can't afford it

"Government really needs to understand how important stories are for people, for their identity, for their mental health and especially for recovery.

"We really need much more stimulus and much more understanding of the impact that culture has on business, education and see it as essential part of being alive."
