Kensington Palace hits back at Tatler magazine article claiming Duchesses Kate and Meghan fought over Princess Charlotte’s wedding tights - PerthNow

The royals have made a rare statement hitting back at a sensational article which claimed Duchesses Kate and Meghan had a fiery row over a pair of tights.

A spokesperson for Kensington Palace, representing Kate and Prince William, has reportedly shot down the claims, which were published in high-society bible Tatler.

The article quoted a friend of the couple who claimed an argument over whether Princess Charlotte should wear tights at the wedding of Meghan and Prince Harry in 2018 sparked a royal rift between the two Duchesses.

It also claimed Kate was furious at copping a bigger workload after Meghan and Harry jumped ship and left for America.

The palace, which rarely responds to press articles, hit back with a statement yesterday, claiming the article which ran with a celebratory front cover headlined “Catherine the Great” was wrong.

“This story contains a swathe of inaccuracies and false misrepresentations which were not put to Kensington Palace prior to publication,” the spokesperson said.

But Tatler has returned fire, claiming it stands by its reporter Anna Pasternak and her sources.

“Kensington Palace knew we were running the "Catherine the Great" cover months ago and we asked them to work together on it. The fact they are denying they ever knew is categorically false,” a spokesperson for the publication said.

The friend claimed to spill the beans on the reason behind Kate and Meghan’s rumoured pre-wedding fallout, which reportedly left Kate in tears.

“It was a hot day and apparently there was a row over whether the bridesmaids should wear tights or not,” the source told the magazine.

“Kate, following protocol, felt that they should. Meghan didn’t want them to.”

The claims are backed by pictures of the wedding day, which appear to show the bridesmaids with bare legs, while those at Kate and William’s 2011 wedding wore tights, in line with royal protocol.

The friend claimed the rift between the two Duchesses extends back to the beginning of Meghan’s romance with Prince Harry.

While Kate famously dated William for seven-years before getting engaged, earning her the tabloid title “Waity Katy”, Meghan’s relationship with Harry was only public for just over a year before they were engaged to be married.

“I don’t think that she ever pulled Meghan under her wing and said ‘I’ll show you the ropes’,” the friend said.

“Catherine and William were very circumspect from the beginning about Meghan, which hurt and incensed Harry.

“William rightly cautioned Harry to slow the relationship down. That’s why they all fell out. As the rift got deeper between the brothers, Kate, who used to be so close to Harry, tried to pacify things. But her loyalty will always be to William.”

“She was convinced there was a conspiracy against her and so she basically put herself in self isolation when they moved to Frogmore," a friend told The Sunday Times.

“I think she felt like an outsider from the start. This wasn’t the life she was used to and she wanted out.”

The couple is now isolating in Los Angeles, while Kate and William are conducting royal engagements from isolation in Britain via video conferences.
