Chrissy Teigen donates $200k to rioters amid George Floyd protests - NEWS.com.au

Chrissy Teigen has pledged $US200,000 to bail out “rioters and criminals” who have been arrested in protests springing up in the aftermath of the death of George Floyd.

“In celebration of whatever the f**k maga night is, I am committed to donating $100,000 to the bail outs of protesters across the country,” Teigen first tweeted Saturday.

The model, who is married to John Legend, then upped the ante when a commenter attempted to correct her tweet, branding the protesters “rioters and criminals.”

“Ooo they might need more money then. Make it $200,000,” Teigen responded.

Teigen’s pledge got the approval of some fans, including journalist Yashar Ali, who tweeted, “I’m so proud of you, baby.”

“God I love you,” wrote YouTuber Tyler Oakley.

Others did not support the move.

“Communities will be ruined and businesses won’t come back but you get to show off how much money you have. Those poors will just have to figure it out, but who actually cares about them right? You get to pretend to care and that’s more fun,” wrote one person.

“Looters are in Beverly Hills. You going to let them in your house? Let them take your TV’s?” asked another.

“Chrissy. Serious question. Why would you bail out a criminal who used the cover of peaceful protest to commit a crime?? It makes no sense,” wrote another.

Teigen’s original tweet was also a response to President Donald Trump — who had earlier in the day tweeted about hosting a MAGA night at the White House.

“The professionally managed so-called ‘protesters’ at the White House had little to do with the memory of George Floyd. They were just there to cause trouble. The @SecretService handled them easily. Tonight, I understand, is MAGA NIGHT AT THE WHITE HOUSE???” the president wrote.

Within just an hour, Teigen’s tweets amassed more than 15,000 retweets and 112,000 likes.
