MasterChef “dark horse” Emelia Jackson has saved herself from Sunday’s elimination, wowing the judges with a mirror image of guest chef Kirsten Tibballs’ intricate watermelon dessert.
It comes weeks after eliminated contestant Courtney Roulston named the sweets superstar as her pick to win along with Reynold and Poh.
She’s also emerged as an unlikely betting favourite on Sportsbet this week.

In a cook that had fellow contestants Brendan Pang, Simon Toohey and Khanh Ong in a frazzle, Emelia kept her cool and produced a dish that stunned judges Mel, Jock, Andy and Kirsten.
The test from guest chef Kirsten, founder of Savour Chocolate and Patisserie School, was to recreate her meljito from a 75-step recipe in just three hours.
Consisting of layers of white chocolate cream, marinated melon, lime and mint madeleine cake, and watermelon jelly, all encased in a perfect, green chocolate watermelon shell to look like a stunning summer cocktail, tonight’s pressure test was rated a 12/10 for difficulty.
While Emelia had a slight advantage going into the challenge, having started a cake business after coming third in season six, viewers watching on at home were left in awe while watching her whiz through the fiddly pressure test with ease.
Others commented on her new-found spotlight amid the betting odds.
“I can’t fault any of it – she should be congratulated,” chef Kirsten Tibballs remarked on tasting Emelia’s dessert.
Chuffed with her immunity win, the straight-talking Emelia said she was feeling "crappy" about her performance last week after landing in the bottom three during Sunday night's elimination.
Ahead of the cook, she had said she hoped to win to avoid the “crippling anxiety” of another elimination.
Meanwhile, Khanh and Simon’s desserts were less-than perfect, but judges gave a well-earned shout-out to fan favourite Brendan.
Emelia’s win tonight comes after former contestant Courtney Roulston named her as the returning chef she thinks could take out the MasterChef 2020 crown.
“If I was to pick a dark horse, I reckon Emelia Jackson,” she told news.com.au.
“But Reynold may dip Poh in nitrogen and that could be the winning formula,” she cheekily jibed of the clear season favourites.
MasterChef Australia continues tomorrow night at 7.30 on Ten.
