Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes reached out to the police for help after being chased and abused by a man on the weekend.
The comedian revealed on the Hit Network’s Hughesy & Ed Show yesterday that the incident occurred when he went for a 10km run on Saturday morning.
Hughesy explained that he was running with headphones in and had his music cranked when he thought that he could “hear someone scream”.
“Then I hear swearing, (but) I’m not completely sure because I’m just focusing on the run. “I’m thinking, ‘is that person yelling at me and are they angry with me?’”
Hughesy said he was suffering from a sore neck so he didn’t turn around to see what was happening behind him.
Unfazed, he continued to run and it wasn’t until he arrived home that he found out just how close he had come to being attacked.
He received a message from a friend who witnessed the incident which said: “My god, Dave, I saw you almost got attacked by some guy. Are you OK?”
The friend explained that the man was “yelling all the words under the sun” at Hughesy and was chasing him and at one stage got within six metres of catching him.
“So some really aggressive guy has chased me, yelling my name and calling me every name under the sun … and he had bad intent,” Hughesy said on air yesterday.
The shaken star went to police for help in identifying the man via CCTV but they were unable to help due to a lack of cameras in the area.
“It’s gonna take me a little while to run there again,” Hughesy said.
