Actor Josh Brolin has apologised for breaking quarantine in LA during the coronavirus lockdown.
The Avengers: Endgame star received backlash online after he broke social-distancing protocols last week when visiting his dad James Brolin, 79, and stepmother Barbra Streisand, 77 — an act he now admits was "irresponsible".
"My father lives next door to us and we had a plan to go see them and not be near them and that plan was broken and that is our responsibility," 52-year-old Josh said in an Instagram video posted over the weekend.
"We were going to pick something up and show [daughter] Bean the pool and I think it was irresponsible," added Josh, who brought his wife Kathryn Boyd and their 17-month-old daughter, Westlyn, along with him.
In the video, the actor said that he "screwed up" and the feedback he received online helped him realise that what he did was inappropriate.
"The responses brought me back to my own truth. It's humbling as hell," he added. "My apologies, and I'm not an advocate of doing anything outside of taking care of each other and making sure we get through this even if we go overboard and are too protective. We'll look back on this as being a short time for a very long term solution and a long life."
It was on April 16 that Josh and his family popped in for a visit, with Barbra posting a photo of Kathryn on the outdoor patio.
"I just love the sign that Josh and Kathryn painted yesterday when they came to see us with our little grandchild Westlyn!" the legendary singer captioned the photo.
But it appears James and Barbra then joined Josh, Kathryn and Westlyn outside, with Josh sharing a since-deleted pic of the group assembled outdoors.
"There's nothing like a good meeting up with family when all you can hear is a distant muffling of what used to be called words," Josh said of the photo of them all wearing masks.
Coronavirus: What you need to know
How can I protect myself and my family?
The World Health Organisation and NSW Health both recommend basic hygiene practices as the best way to protect yourself from coronavirus.
Good hygiene includes:
- Clean your hands thoroughly for at least 20 seconds with soap and water, or an alcohol-based hand sanitiser;
- Cover your nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing with tissue or your elbow;
- Avoid close contact with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms;
- Apply safe food practices; and
- Stay home if you are sick.
What is social distancing?
Social distancing involved minimising contact with people and maintaining a distance of over one metre between you and others.
When practicing social distancing, you should avoid public transport, limit non-essential travel, work from home and skip large gatherings.
It is okay to go outdoors. However, when you do leave home, avoid touching your face and frequently wash your hands.
If I'm young and healthy, do I still have to practice social distancing?
Yes. While older people are at higher risk of contracting COVID-19, young people are not immune. People that show mild or no symptoms may still pass the virus to others, particularly in the early stages of the infection, before many patients realise that they are sick.
