Meghan Markle has been snubbed by the royal family on her 42nd birthday after Buckingham Palace made no announcement regarding the Duchess’ special day.
The Duchess of Sussex celebrated her birthday early during an intimate dinner with Prince Harry on Wednesday night at the Italian restaurant Tre Lune in Montecito.
They were accompanied for the small celebration by their friend Matt Cohen, a wealthy tech executive and husband of Meghan’s longtime friend Heather Dorak.
Since leaving the royal family, there has been an inconsistent protocol regarding birthdays in the Sussex family.
While Meghan received no acknowledgement at all for her birthday, her son Prince Archie was personally congratulated on his birthday by King Charles during a speech on coronation day in May.
However, in June, there was radio silence from senior members of the royal family on social media as Harry and Meghan’s daughter, Princess Lilibet, celebrated her second birthday.
Last year, William and Kate, the Prince and Princess of Wales, along with King Charles and Queen Camilla, all publicly shared birthday wishes for Meghan on social media.
Notably, since Meghan’s last birthday the couple released their controversial Netflix series in which the Sussexes doubled down on criticism of the royal family.
The series was followed by the release of Prince Harry’s tell-all memoir Spare, in which the duke made embarrassing revelations and comments about senior members of the royal family, including Prince William, Princess Catherine and Queen Camilla.
The Prince also claimed in Spare that King Charles was “bonded” to Meghan after discovering she shared her birthday with the late Queen Mother during a weekend in Scotland in 2018.
“The bond between Meg and Pa, always strong, grew even stronger during that weekend,” he wrote.
“One night, over pre-dinner cocktails, Fred Astaire playing in the background, it emerged that Meg shared a birthdate with Pa’s favourite person: Gan-Gan."
Elizabeth, the Queen Mother passed away in 2002 at the age of 101 and was a mother figure to the King.
"'Amazing,’ Pa said with a smile,” Harry added of his estranged father’s reaction.
Despite this special connection, the official Royal Family Twitter account did not mention Meghan's birthday but did find time to share a post about the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
