The Project host Lisa Wilkinson ‘leaves Australia’ to go to US after Logies scandal - PerthNow

Where the bloody hell are ya? Well if you ask Lisa Wilkinson it isn’t Australia.

The Project host was reportedly set to return to the desk last night, however, she has quietly fled the country amid the fallout from her infamous Logie Awards speech, according to a report in The Australian.

The veteran journalist is reportedly in the US and will film a series of interviews for the Network 10 show.

Wilkinson is set to interview musicians and movie stars from Hollywood and New York before taking a bout of leave.

She hasn’t been seen on the TV show since her now infamous Logies speech which landed her in hot water.

During Australian TV’s night of nights, Wilkinson won the most outstanding news coverage for her interview with Brittany Higgins in January 2021.

While accepting her Logie, Wilkinson made some comments which caused the trial of Bruce Lehrmann, the man accused of raping Ms Higgins, to be delayed after overstepping the mark in her speech.

ACT Supreme Court Justice Lucy McCallum said the speech “completely obliterated” the line between allegation and guilt of the alleged sexual assault in Parliament House in Canberra on March 22, 2019.

The 62-year-old has copped a hammering since the speech, including from a former colleague.

Ex-weatherman Tim Bailey, who once worked with Wilkinson, was particularly scathing, accusing Wilkinson of having a “big head”.

“Pull ya head in. I know this might be difficult, because it is a very big head. But please try,” he wrote on Twitter.

Bailey followed it up with another post: “Just accept ya F-ing little trophy and F off! Good advice, yeah?”

Mr Lehrmann’s trial was to start on June 27 but will now begin on October 4. It is listed for four weeks.
