Former television host Andrew O'Keefe will remain in custody tonight after he allegedly grabbed a female business partner by the throat before punching her.
Sydney City police arrested the former host of Channel Seven's Weekend Sunrise at his Kent Street unit at 4.30am today.
This afternoon he was charged with two counts of intentionally choking a person without their consent, three counts of common assault and one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Police will allege the 50-year-old assaulted his business partner during a verbal argument at his home on Tuesday afternoon.
O'Keefe, well known for hosting the reality game show Deal or No Deal, was also a former ambassador for White Ribbon – an organisation that works to combat violence against women.
In a statement, NSW Police alleged: "A verbal argument ensued between the pair, before the man allegedly assaulted the woman – grabbing her by the throat, pushing her to the ground and punching her.
"The man allegedly assaulted the woman a second time – punching and kicking her – before she left the unit."
He has been refused bail and is due to appear at Central Local Court tomorrow.
As he was taken away in the back of a police car this evening he lashed out, screaming expletives at the media.
