Welcome to Radio Today’s coverage of the latest metro radio survey of 2020.
After a disruptive year, and just two consecutive books, the curtain is about to close – and nobody is complaining. The results from GfK’s metro Survey 8 will be published below at 9:30am AEDT.
Survey 8 was conducted by GfK between September 20 and November 28.

Sydney’s 2Day FM Music For Breakfast format has bowed out with a slight increase in audience share, climbing from 3.5% last survey to 4.2% this survey.
The show, anchored by programming veteran Jamie Angel, will be replaced in 2020 by The Morning Crew featuring Ed Kavalee, Dave Hughes and Channel 9’s Erin Molan.
Kavalee and Hughes currently occupy part of the Drive slot, appearing after Carrie Bickmore and Tommy Little, who will take on an extended program next year.
In Drive in Sydney 2Day’s share climbed 1.3 points to 5.1%.
Overall, in people 10+, the station’s share was 4.0%, up from 3.4% last survey.
KIIS 106.5’s The Kyle & Jackie O Show remained on top of the FM Breakfast pile, with an 11.3% share, up from 10.7%. The radio veterans have just celebrated 20 years on air together.
Its nearest competitor was NOVA Entertainment’s smoothfm which had 7.9%, down from 8.5%.
Overall, however, Nine Radio’s 2GB managed to stay on top, with a 17.1% share in the Breakfast slot occupied by Ben Fordham – an increase of 1.0 points. The 17.1% share carried over to Mornings with Ray Hadley, a minimal 0.1 point drop.
In overall share, 2GB had 13.8%, up 0.1 points.

The Fifi, Fev & Byron show on Melbourne’s Fox FM was one of a few key shows from across the country to have its final outing this survey.
It wrapped up with a 6.6% share, up 1.6 points from last survey when many hit music stations were hit by changing listener habits in Melbourne.
In the FM Breakfast battle, GOLD 104.3’s Christian O’Connell maintained his lead, climbing 0.2 points to a 7.5% share.
And despite a 3.4 point drop, nothing could touch 3AW’s Breakfast with Ross & Russel, which was well ahead with a 25.o% share.
3AW was also untouchable overall, dropping one point to 19.6%, taking out the audience share win.
In FM, Australian Radio Network’s (ARN) GOLD stayed on top, climbing 0.1 points to 9.0%.

Nova 106.9 is still the reigning radio champion in Brisbane, with an overall 12.5% share, up 0.6 points. Its closest competitor is Southern Cross Austereo’s (SCA) Triple M, which climbed 0.9 points to 11.0%.
Both managed to also secure a climb in Breakfast, with Nova’s Ash, Kip & Luttsy with Susie O’Neill climbing 0.4 points to 13.0%, and Triple M’s The Big Breakfast with Marto, Margaux and Nick Cody going up 0.8 points to 10.6%.
Next year, Cody will depart Triple M Brisbane to join Fox FM in Melbourne alongside Fifi Box and Brendan Fevola.
97.3 FM, which at one point last year topped the Breakfast ratings battle, had an 8.2% share in Breakfast with its revived lineup of Robin, Terry & Bob. This was a decline of 0.8 points, and also placed it behind B105’s Stav, Abby & Matt, on 9.3% (down 0.9 points).
The most popular station in Drive was once again Nova, climbing 2.2 points to 15.9%. The survey covers the Kate, Tim & Joel iteration of the show, which kicked off on 14 September. The survey period started on September 20.

Mix 102.3’s Breakfast program with Jodie Oddy and Mark ‘Soda’ Soderstrom has finished up its run with a 10.6% share.
For years the show has been a survey-topper in terms of audience share, however briefly lost the top spot to new kids on the block Ben Harvey and Liam Stapelton, from Ben & Liam on Nova, when surveys returned after the COVID-pause.
Last survey, Jodie & Soda returned to the top of the pile, however on November 19 it was announced Oddy was leaving immediately. Her replacement has not yet been confirmed.
This last survey for 2020 encompasses the period of September 20 to November 28.
Jodie & Soda’s 10.6% share, down 1.9 points from last survey, puts it on par with Triple M in the Breakfast slot. Roo & Ditts climbed 1.1 points from last survey to match the 10.6% share.
Ben & Liam dropped one point to 9.7% putting it behind Mix and Triple M in the FM Breakfast battle.
Overall Australian Radio Network’s (ARN) Mix 102.3 fell 1.7 points, but remained on top with an 11.7% share.

The Perth radio market is in for a shakeup next year, with the final survey of 2020 giving a snapshot of where the stations sit ahead of the changes.
96FM had a glorious return to the top of the pile last survey, however suffered a 1.9 point drop this time around, placing it at 11.3% in terms of audience share. This enabled Nova to climb to the top, with a 1.8 point climb to 14.3%.
Southern Cross Austereo’s (SCA) Mix 94.5 also finished ahead of 96FM, remaining steady on 12.0%.
Mix 94.5, however, became part of the Hit Network on December 1 – after the survey period. Its long-serving Breakfast co-host Dean ‘Clairy’ Clairs also announced his departure on November 27. He will be replaced by Pete Curulli.
Curulli had been part of the Hit 92.9 Breakfast team of Xavier, Juelz & Pete. 92.9 has subsequently become part of the Triple M network, with its Breakfast plans not yet clear.
In Breakfast, Nova’s Nathan, Nat & Shaun climbed 1.9 points to a dominant 15.9%, while Mix was in second with 10.8%. Hit 92.9 had 9.0%, while Botica’s Bunch on 96FM was down 1.6 points to 8.3%.
6PR, which will also have a new Breakfast lineup in 2021 following the departure of Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas, had a 10.8% share in Breakfast.
