Fredrik Robertsson was widely mistaken for the Morbius actor on the steps of the coveted Met Gala ball, including some leading publications.
The New York Times tweeted an image with Robertsson and mistakenly identified him as actor Leto.
The publication soon acknowledged their mistake after fans flooded the comments section.
“Correction: An earlier tweet misidentified Fredrik Robertsson as Jared Leto. We have deleted the incorrect tweet.”
Robertsson was seen on the iconic steps of the Met adorned in a sculptural Iris Van Herpen look.
Jared Leto arrived shortly after the disastrous mistake, with the creative director of Gucci Alessandro Michelle.
The pair were donning matching ensembles, forcing hosts and interviewers to do a double take.
Leto is known for his expressive red carpet looks of the past, and is partial to a printed or embellished suit.
