Keira Knightley refuses to film any more sex scenes with male directors - NEWS.com.au

Keira Knightley says she will not film any more sex scenes with male directors because it makes her feel “very uncomfortable”.

She revealed she would consider performing naked again, but only under female direction.

The British actress, 35, who has starred in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and Atonement, suggested such scenes would need to be part of telling a story about motherhood.

Asked why she often has a “no nudity” clause written into her movie contracts, Keira replied: “It’s partly vanity and also it’s the male gaze.

“If I was making a story that was about that journey of motherhood and body exception I feel like, I’m sorry, but that would have to be with a female filmmaker.

“I don’t have an absolute ban, but I kind of do with men.

“I don’t want it to be those horrible sex scenes where you’re all greased up and everybody is grunting. I’m not interested in doing that.”

The married mum-of-two said if the story was about motherhood and “how extraordinary that body is” she would “be up for exploring that with a woman who would understand that”.

She said: “I feel very uncomfortable now trying to portray the male gaze.”

Speaking on the Chanel Connects podcast, Keira continued, “Saying that, there’s times where I go, ‘Yeah, I completely see where this sex would be really good in this film and you basically just need somebody to look hot.’

“So therefore you can use somebody else, because I’m too vain and the body has had two children now and I’d just rather not stand in front of a group of men naked.”

Keira began acting as a child and appeared in Star Wars movie The Phantom Menace as a teen in 1999.

She was seen in nude romps in 2008’s The Edge of Love and 2018’s Colette – both directed by men.
