This year’s I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! contestants have finally been revealed.
After weeks of cryptic clues from Channel 10, nine stars were shown entering the camp site during Sunday night’s premiere episode (awkwardly, some of the stars didn’t recognise the other celebs … more on that later).
This year’s line-up includes a Gold Logie winner, an Australia’s Got Talent winner, a couple of comedians and a former soap star.
Channel 10 has also teased that a few more celebrity intruders will be joining the show throughout the week.
We could do a full recap of the episode (there was skydiving, sausages in the face, tears) but let’s be honest, the only thing you want to know is who is on the show this year … so here they are.
GRANT DENYER
The 2018 Gold Logie winner has been on Aussie TV screens for almost 20 years.
He rose to fame as the Sunrise weather presenter and later went on to host Family Feud, Australia’s Got Talent, Dancing with the Stars and a whole bunch of other TV shows.
JACK VIDGEN
The talented singer was just 14 years old when he won Australia’s Got Talent in 2011. He struggled with the pressures of fame in the years that followed and disappeared from the limelight completely.
But in 2019 he made a showbiz comeback when he competed on The Voice. Last year he also competed on America’s Got Talent: The Champions.
PAULINI CURUENAVULI
Paulini made it to the final four on the first season of Australian Idol way back in 2003. In recent years she’s appeared in a few musicals including The Bodyguard Musical, Saturday Night Fever and Hair.
TONI PEAREN
Pearen first burst onto Aussie screens in E-Street back in 1989. After a brief break to pursue her music career, Pearen went on to star in Home And Away, JAG and A Country Practice.
Pearen also hosted Australia’s Funniest Home Video Show for four years and competed on Dancing With The Stars in 2008.
Her early music career saw her grace the ARIA top 10 charts twice with her singles In Your Room and I Want You, both of which went on to receive gold certification.
ABBIE CHATFIELD
Abbie is one of Australia’s most talked about reality stars from the past few years.
She narrowly missed out on receiving the final rose from Matt Agnew on The Bachelor in 2019 and later went on to appear on Bachelor In Paradise.
She currently hosts a podcast called It’s A Lot.
TRAVIS VARCOE
Varcoe, 32, is a former AFL star who played for Geelong and Collingwood. He retired last year after a 15-year AFL career and has two premierships to his name.
ASH WILLIAMS
The comedian has had a long and varied showbiz career so far. He was previously a part of the Hughesy & Kate radio show back when the duo hosted the Nova Melbourne breakfast show.
He later tried his luck in Hollywood and had small roles in films including Anger Management and The Exes before returning to Australia.
He’s since appeared on TV shows including Neighbours and Kinne Tonight. Ash is also a hugely successful podcaster and can be heard on TEAM Effort (with Ed Kavalee and Tony Martin) and The Ash Williams Show.
JESS EVA
Jess co-hosted a radio show on the Sunshine Coast for years but she gained a national profile in 2018 when she was cast on The Block.
Jess and her partner Norm quickly became fan favourites and pocketed $209,000 on the show.
Jess is currently the co-host of Triple M Sydney’s breakfast show, Moonman in the Morning.
MEL BUTTLE
Mel is a comedian who not only performs stand-up but is also a hugely talented comedy writer, with credits including Please Like Me and The Drum.
Mel is also known for being for the co-host of The Great Australian Bake Off alongside Claire Hooper.
CELEBS FAILED TO RECOGNISE EACH OTHER
One of the most entertaining parts of the first episodes of I’m a Celeb each year is when the celebs fail to recognise the other celebs.
And it happened again on Sunday night.
Abbie Chatfield had no idea who Ash Williams was, but the comedian got swift revenge when he said to her: “You’re not working here? You’re a contestant?”
He knew EXACTLY who she was though, and just a few seconds later he revealed that he actually tried to “slide into her DM’s” after she appeared on The Bachelor.
“I think you saw it,” he said to her about the Insta message. “It said ‘seen’. But it’s OK.”
Grant Denyer appeared to have little idea who Abbie was and a few of the celebs weren’t entirely sure who Jess Eva was either.
VERY DIFFERENT SEASON
I’m a Celeb is a little different this season compared to the previous six seasons.
The show was prerecorded in late 2020 and was filmed in Australia (at a site near Murwillumbah in NSW) instead of South Africa due to the pandemic.
The celebrities are competing for their chance at $100,000 for their chosen charity.
I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here continues on Channel 10 at 7.30pm Monday night
