Holey Moley’s Celebrity Special sees Steven Bradbury again claim victory — by default - PerthNow

Nearly 20 years after he won an Olympic gold medal by staying on his feet after his competitors took a fall, Steven Bradbury has done it again.

The former speed skater appeared as a contestant on Seven’s Holey Moley Celebrity Special tonight, where he teed off against veteran and much-loved TV presenter Denise ‘Ding Dong’ Drysdale.

Despite saying golf was a game that doesn’t come naturally to him, he managed to come out with a win in the round after Drysdale took a bad fall while chasing after one of the show’s gopher mascots on the Frankenputt hole.

The accident was shown in full, with Drysdale immediately screaming out in pain realising she had badly hurt her shoulder.

Paramedics quickly raced onto the course to assist the 72-year-old, who was wheeled off the course and had to withdraw from the competition.

The victory was then handed over to Bradbury by default.

He eventually made it into the final round, but was beaten by former AFL star Barry Hall , who took out the contest.

Last month, Drysdale revealed she had suffered a fractured shoulder during the incident, but that she was on the road to recovery.

The final episode of Holey Moley will air tomorrow at 7.30pm on Seven, with a batch of kids hitting the course to try their luck.

James Weir recaps Married At First Sight Australia 2021 episode 5: MAFS bride’s breakdown over cringe groom - NEWS.com.au

A Married At First Sight bride is so disappointed with the man she’s forced to wed on Sunday night she suffers a hysterical breakdown in scenes that are almost as shocking as the exposed open-room toilet we’re forced to witness later.

Guys, it’s that part of the series where producers introduce the two token old people. We knew it was only a matter of time.

Russell’s 37 and Beth’s 39. We’re not even there in person but we just know they both smell like hospital and microwaved Meals On Wheels.

JAMES WEIR RECAPS: Read all the recaps here

JAMES WEIR RECAPS: MAFS episode 4

Because this is a news website, it’s a requirement that the most important facts and details of a story be presented at the top, so here goes: Russell owns one of those electronic massage recliners – like the coin-operated ones in airports and shopping centres that we all have too much pride to use, even though we want to.

Russell has high standards. This is evident in both his interior design choices and his criteria for a mate.

“As long as she’s a normal human and not some kind of weirdo,” he shrugs.

That should be a selection filter on all dating apps: “Normal human, non-weirdo”.

Annnnd it comes as no surprise the vows he has written are … not … good?

“I, Russell, take you, Beth, to be my partner in ... crime. Ah, I mean ... life. I mean ... wife. Phew. Ah, it appears auto-correct has really stepped it up a notch here,” he smirks, leaving a long silence for applause from the imaginary crowd.

“I promise to cherish and hold you … as much as my dirt bikes,” he pauses again for cheers from the crowd.

“I know having each other by our sides can only lead to greatness. And it would really help to have a spare pair of hands at the track when the racing’s on!” he giggles at his own terrible gag as Beth wonders if it’s too late to run away in the sand.

“Well done, well done to all the experts. Well done to everyone that’s involved. You’ve done well,” a satisfied Russell nods as he awaits calls from Netflix to contract him for a comedy special.

Beth, how are you feeling?

“He seems lovely but he’s not the type of guy I’d usually go for,” she stipulates. “I’m either gonna laugh or cry.”

Hey, you be nice to him. He can hook you up with a personal electronic massage recliner.

We shove Beth off down the beach to take the wedding photos and Russell is elated.

“I believe I’m starting to feel a connection with her,” he beams.

We feel it too!

The conversation with Russell is just electric. You can feel the sexual tension just bouncing off them.

“Did you have any requests for the food today?” he asks her.

“Yes. Um, I can’t eat gluten and dairy,” she replies. Ugh, TMI, Beth. “And I only eat seafood. So. What about you?”

Russell did in fact order specific food for the event. “I asked for hot chips.”

This should be a turning point in their love affair. The guy has just revealed that, not only does he own a personal electronic massage recliner, but he orders hot chips as an entire meal when he goes out to functions.

I WOULD MARRY THIS GUY IF HE WASN’T ALREADY MARRIED.

You better sort out your attitude, Bethany, because if you don’t want him, I’m swooping in.

“You wrote down ‘hot chips’ for lunch?” she squints.

Russell knows he’s nailing it.

“I do believe there’s a spark of chemistry. We’ll call it a slight smoulder at the moment. It could turn into a wild fire,” he winks at us and we give him a thumbs-up in return.

But Beth is not on the same page. She’s having a breakdown and we’re pretty sure it’s the hot chips that pushed her over the edge.

“This is not what I was expecting,” she sobs. “I feel like a sh*t person because I don’t have that feeling that I wanted to have!”

Honestly, we’re this close to pulling her aside and giving her a stern talking to.

Bethany, we’re gonna tell you something and we’re only gonna say it once. You’ve been gifted a magnificent man who has his own electronic massage recliner and thinks hot chips is a meal. Do you know how many people would kill to be in your position? All of us think Russell’s a catch!

We tell her to stop being a snob and then push her into the reception, which is incredibly awkward because coronavirus restrictions means there are no guests and it’s just the two of them.

Russell gets served some rubbish that’s definitely not hot chips.

“These are things I wouldn’t normally eat. Like, yellow carrots. Pink fish,” he lifts the slop with his fork.

We wouldn’t eat it either, Russell.

Of course Beth is still being a snob.

“I’m struggling with him as a person because I’ve never met someone like him. I’m hoping something will develop in terms of chemistry and physical attraction,” she says before laying down a threat. “I’m on the brink of getting up, walking away and getting on a plane and leaving this whole thing.”

Chained to her chair by producers, she copes the only way she knows how:

Meanwhile, there are two more sad sacks being married. They go by the names Belinda and Patrick. She says she’s never had a boyfriend and we just assume he’s never had a girlfriend.

It should come as no surprise that, at the wedding reception, she decides to perform an interpretative dance.

We try to wind it up but she just keeps flailing about.

We all react appropriately:

And their honeymoon together is about as sexy as that dance.

First of all, Patrick has an untamed clump of hair that’s standing up.

And when they check in to their honeymoon suite, they discover the bathroom is in the same room as the bedroom, sans dividing walls. The shower and the toilet are just plonked down right in the middle of the space.

“Is … is that … an open toilet? There’s no door,” Belinda shudders as she runs her palms up and down the walls in the hope of locating some kind of partition or curtain.

They’re both horrified.

“Going from meeting her yesterday to having a sh*t with no door? That’s one extreme to another,” Patrick says, his stubborn clump of hair still refusing to settle.

While Belinda and Patrick use Microsoft Excel to devise a schedule that dictates when they can each use the toilet without the other being in the room, we head back to dream couple Russell and Beth.

She’s still in a mood but then he gives her some jewellery that looks like it was bought on the TVSN channel and she knows she has to accept it and play nice.

Love’s such a beautiful thing to watch unfold. We see his-and-hers electronic massage recliners in their future.

Holey Moley: Footage shows Denise Drysdale tripping and fracturing her shoulder - NEWS.com.au

Channel 7 has aired the shocking footage of Denise Drysdale being injured on the set of Holey Moley.

Drysdale was one of the stars who took part in Celebrity Holey Moley which was filmed back in October.

It was reported at the time that Drysdale had fractured her shoulder while participating in the show, but it wasn’t clear exactly how it had happened.

A Eureka Productions spokesperson said at the time: “While filming Holey Moley in Brisbane last night, Denise Drysdale tripped on a putting green and sustained a shoulder injury. She is resting and receiving treatment. Denise is a national treasure and everyone is wishing her a speedy recovery.”

On Sunday night, it was revealed in the TV special that Drysdale tripped while chasing an adult in a gofer costume.

Drysdale was chasing the gofer because it had just zapped her with electricity – a punishment she received for not getting her ball in the hole which was named ‘Frankenputt’.

The TV legend screamed in pain after the fall and clutched her shoulder on the ground as the gofer looked on helplessly.

“I’ve done my shoulder,” Drysdale could be heard saying. “That hurt like hell.”

A team of medics attended to Drysdale and she was given pain relief before being taken off the set in a wheelchair.

Drysdale first spoke about the incident on Studio 10 not long after it happened, telling the hosts: “I wasn’t playing silly buggers. It was 3.30 in the morning and a segment I was doing shouldn’t have even been considered. I did it, and I shouldn’t have. I’ve learned a terrible lesson to learn at my age, but it has changed my thinking … again!”

She spoke about the incident again on Studio 10 earlier this month telling co-hosts Sarah Harris and Tristan MacManus she felt “so foolish” after the fall and was still in pain from it.

“I had a bit of an accident. I fractured my shoulder and then sat for three months, I couldn’t do anything,” she told them.

Former Disney child star Bobby Driscoll’s short, tragic life - NEWS.com.au

Former Disney child star Bobby Driscoll rose to fame at age 9 as “the first human being signed for Disney Productions.”

He won a Juvenile Oscar at age 12 and went on to voice the title role in 1953‘s animated film Peter Pan at age 16, but met a tragic end.

In 1968, the actor’s body was discovered by children playing in an abandoned New York City tenement. Only beer bottles and religious handouts were by his side.

The cause of death for the penniless 31-year-old was hardening of the arteries, a common side effect of longtime heroin use, Entertainment Weekly reported. Driscoll’s remains were unclaimed and he was eventually buried in a mass, unmarked grave on Hart Island alongside other unidentified bodies.

Driscoll’s friend Billy Gray, who also got his start in Hollywood at a young age, told Fox News puberty hit Driscoll especially hard, forever impacting his career.

“Like many adolescents, he developed a rough complexion,” explained the former Father Knows Best star. ”You know, pimples and all that kind of stuff. And I guess Disney thought he was no longer useful for them.”

Multiple reports alleged the once “Wonder Child” had to rely on heavy makeup to hide pockmarks on his skin. His voice had also suddenly deepened.

In 1953, the teen was unexpectedly dropped by the studio.

“He came to the lot one day and they wouldn’t let him in at the gate,” said Gray. ”They told him he was no longer able to come to the studio. That’s how he found out he was fired. He was devastated. He was treated so rudely by Hollywood. And he didn’t take the news well.”

Driscoll attempted to maintain steady work in several TV shows and guest appearances over the years, but he never achieved the same stardom he once had as a sought-after actor. In high school, he was teased by his peers and his grades declined.

According to Entertainment Weekly, he left home at age 16 and headed to New York City to study acting. He also reportedly enrolled in UCLA and Stanford but dropped out.

Gray said Driscoll eventually resorted to heroin.

“He had a drug problem,” said Gray. ”He got into heroin. He just never found his way and made that choice.”

In Driscoll‘s later years, he was arrested multiple times for drug possession, assault, burglary and cheque fraud before he was committed for drug rehabilitation in 1961.

“I had everything,” Driscoll said in an interview after his sentencing, as quoted by Entertainment Weekly. ”Was earning $50,000 a year … working steadily with good parts. Then I started putting all my spare time in my arm. I’m not really sure why I started using narcotics. I was 17 when I first experimented with the stuff. In no time at all, I was using whatever was available … mostly heroin, because I had the money to pay for it.”

“Memories are not very useful,” he later reflected about his child stardom. ”I was carried on a silver platter and then dumped into the garbage can.”

Gray said he and his pal lost touch when Driscoll headed to New York.

“We were buddies,” said Gray. ”We hung out before he moved to New York City. Then we just kind of lost touch after that. I later heard he was discovered overdosed in an abandoned building. And that was the end of it. He just never got his life together. It was horrible what happened to him.”

Driscoll’s mother Isabelle wouldn’t learn of her son’s death until nearly two years later after placing advertisements about his disappearance in New York newspapers, the outlet shared. And it wouldn’t be until four years later that the public learned of Driscoll’s grim fate in 1972 when his Disney film Song of the South was re-released.

In 1972, the matriarch described to Movie Digest how drugs changed her son.

“He never showed any fear of people,” she said. ”Before he went on narcotics he almost never cried. Afterwards, he was crying all the time. Drugs changed him. That’s when he became belligerent. Then he didn’t care about his appearance or cleanliness, he didn’t bathe, his teeth got loose. He had an extremely high I.Q., but the narcotics affected his brain. We didn’t know what it was. He was 19 before we knew. I felt he was changing but his father said no, it was just a phase he was going through like most boys.”

Today, Gray remembers Driscoll not as the fallen child star, but simply as his friend.

“He turned me on to Bach when I was 15,” he chuckled. ”I remember he came up to me so excited, ‘You’ve got to hear this!’ It was Brandenburg Concerto No.5. It was incredible. It really blew me away. And I never listened to any other music after that. Bach was my guy, that was it for me. It’s given me so much joy throughout my life. And then I immersed myself into his extensive collection of work. I still thank [Bobby] for that.”

“He really was a sweet guy,” Gray shared. ”A lovely guy, a dear friend. He was responsible for one of the real high points of my life. That’s how I remember him.”

Golden Globes 2021: When and where to watch, who is hosting, and more - ABC News

The 78th Golden Globe awards will kick off the 2021 awards season on Monday, March 1, with titles like Mank and The Crown, and streaming platform Netflix dominating the nominations.

Not much has been said about exactly what the Globes' first virtual ceremony will entail, but there are a few things we do know.

Here's your shortcut guide.

When and where to watch

E! will host a red carpet show on Monday, March 1, from 10:00am AEDT.

The awards ceremony will be shown on FOX ARENA live from 12:00pm AEDT.

If you can't tune into the broadcast, follow us here on our ABC News live blog.

Who is hosting?

Veteran duo Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will host the Globes for the fourth time since 2013, only this time around they won't be sharing a stage.

Instead they'll host from opposite sides of the US — Fey from the Rainbow Room in New York City, and Poehler from the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles.

They'll have a tough act to follow in Ricky Gervais, who shook things up last year when he let rip on jokes about Jeffrey Epstein, Prince Andrew, Felicity Huffman and Apple … with CEO Tim Cook in the crowd.

Gervais described the crowd reaction of boos, shocked faces and stifled laughter as the "best ever".

Minari's inclusion in the best foreign language movie category raised eyebrows, mainly because it's an American-made film about a Korean family, set in America.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) rules dictate a film's dialogue must be at least 50 per cent in English to compete in the best picture category, and because Minari is not, it was relegated to the foreign language category.

The situation left many questioning the HFPA's rules, including Lulu Wang, director of The Farewell, a film that was treated similarly in 2020:

Music, a directorial debut of Australian singer and producer Sia, was nominated for best musical or comedy film.

The film was criticised for casting neurotypical actor Maddie Ziegler as a nonverbal autistic girl.

Loading

The New York Post called it "unwatchable and offensive", while Time's review called it a "sensory-overloading musical film" and also "bad art".

While Sia defended the film, saying she tried to cast an actor on the autistic spectrum but they found the film too distressing, she later admitted her ultimate casting choice was ableist.

Emily in Paris was also a controversial nomination for best musical or comedy TV series, mainly because it took a spot many felt should have gone to Michaela Coel's I May Destroy You, which was completely snubbed by the HFPA.

Emily Copaken, a writer on Emily in Paris, even wrote an op-ed in The Guardian saying Coel's series deserved the nomination.

What are some names to look for on the day?

Twelve-year-old Helena Zengel, who stars alongside Tom Hanks in Netflix's News of the World, and is up for best supporting actress in a motion picture.

While her famous co-star didn't manage to nab a nomination, Helena could become one of the youngest to ever win a Golden Globe.

Fun Fact: the youngest Globes winner was Ricky Schroder, who at nine years old won the award for the now-defunct New Star of the Year award in 1980.

Another name to watch is Borat star Maria Bakalova, who is nominated for best actress in a motion picture musical or comedy.

Bakalova is the first Bulgarian to be nominated for a Globe, so a win for her will be a notable moment.

Chadwick Boseman could receive a posthumous Globe for best actor in a motion picture drama for his role in M Rainey's Black Bottom.

Lady Gaga's dogs tied to pole in alley when they were rescued - PerthNow

New details have emerged of how Lady Gaga’s French bulldogs were rescued after a dramatic and violent dognapping and who will be claiming the $5000,00 reward.

Koji and Gustavo were found tied to a pole in an alley several miles from where they were stolen in West Hollywood, it has now been confirmed.

The Shallow hitmaker was left devastated when the dogs were stolen by thieves who attacked her dog walker, Ryan Fischer, this week, shooting him four times in the chest.

Gaga’s pooches were thankfully recovered when a woman brought them to Olympic Community Police Station.

Law enforcement sources confirmed to TMZ the woman who returned the dogs is not connected to the incident, and was merely passing by when she noticed the canines tied up.

The publication reports the woman contacted the email address Gaga posted for those with information, and was told to take them to a nearby police station.

TMZ also claims the woman will be receiving the $500,000 reward which Gaga was offering for the safe return of her dogs.

Police are believed to still be searching for the two perpetrators of the violent theft, and are combing the area for surveillance video.

The theft occurred in West Hollywood, when 30-year-old Fischer was walking all three of Gaga’s dogs – including third French bulldog Miss Asia – and was attacked by two men.

Fischer was shot in the chest four times and was rushed to hospital, where he is currently said to be in a “stable” condition.

Gaga’s third dog, Miss Asia, fled the scene and was later recovered by police and returned to one of Gaga’s bodyguards.

Lady Gaga’s dad wants dog thieves charged with attempted murder, assault - NEWS.com.au

Lady Gaga’s beloved stolen French bulldogs were reportedly found by a good Samaritan in an alley tied to a pole, a long way from where they were yanked from their walker.

TMZ reports the woman who turned in the dogs, Gustav and Koji, to a Los Angeles Police station on Friday night recognised them from media reports.

The woman reportedly found the dogs miles from the Los Angeles neighbourhood where they were violently yanked from their walker Ryan Fischer , 39, who was shot in the process.

Gaga, who is in Rome and offered a $500,000 reward for the return of the dogs, is reportedly ecstatic they were found safely and said she would “gladly” pay the woman who rescued them, TMZ reported.

Now her dad is calling on investigators to throw the book at the thieves.

Joe Germanotta said he wanted the two dognappers charged with assault and attempted murder.

“Letting Koji and Gustav go unharmed was nice but they must be punished for what they did to Ryan,” Germanotta told Fox News.

“Special thanks to the doctors and nurses in the emergency room.”

Fischer managed to wrestle the third dog, Miss Asia, from the attackers and she was safely returned.

“I am relieved that Ryan is going to be OK and Koji and Gusatv were found. Thanks to the LAPD,” Germanotta added.

The Los Angeles Police Department has released a description of the two men. Both of the suspects are described as black males, between the ages of 20 and 25, who were seen in a white Nissan Altima with four doors, cops said in a Thursday night news release.

The suspect who shot the dog walker was armed with a semiautomatic handgun, has blond dreadlocks and was wearing a black hoodie, police said.

The second suspect was wearing dark clothing, cops said.

Mr Fischer, described by Germanotta as a “friend” who “risked his life protecting” the dogs, was walking the celebrity pets on North Sierra Bonita Avenue near Sunset Boulevard Wednesday night about 9.40pm when he was ambushed by the suspects.

They demanded he turn over the dogs and when Mr Fischer put up a fight, he was shot in the chest, cops said.

Mr Fischer was in stable condition late Thursday and has been moved out of the ICU, according to police and Mr Germanotta.
