The Russo Bros. Are Bringing MAGIC: THE GATHERING To Netflix - Birth.Movies.Death.

In which the Russos get into the anime game.

Joe and Anthony Russo, directors of Avengers: Endgame (which is now less than $100M away from being the biggest movie of all time), are busy guys, and the success they've experienced within the Marvel Cinematic Universe probably means they will be busy guys for a very long time.

For instance: they're currently in post-production on the Chadwick Boseman-starring action-thriller 21 Bridges (which they executive produced) while also navigating pre-production on their next directorial effort, the Tom Holland-starring Cherry (which sounds like it's gonna be great). And now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, they're also shepherding a Magic: The Gathering series onto Netflix.

Says THR:

"The streaming giant is teaming with Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast for the first-ever Magic: The Gathering TV series. Brothers Joe and Anthony Russo ... will executive produce the series. Henry Gilroy (Star Wars Rebels, Star Wars: The Clone Wars) and Jose Molina (The Tick, Agent Carter) will serve as lead writers and co-exec producers on the anime series." 

THR goes on to say that an episode order and episode runtimes have yet to be determined, as everyone involved has opted to "let the storytelling drive those decisions." That strikes us as a fairly refreshing way to tackle original programming on a streaming network! We applaud this decision and would very much like to see others (perhaps CBS All Access' Twilight Zone) following in their footsteps.

How excited you'll be about all this will likely depend on how excited you are about Magic: The Gathering in general. On that front, the Russo Brothers probably have nothing to worry about: Magic: The Gathering remains a popular gaming franchise (THR puts its value at "nearly $1 billion"), so there's plenty of would-be viewers out there who'll likely be hyped about all this.
