'Can't sing': Jonas Brothers slammed on-air during Project appearance | news.com.au — Australia's leading news site - news.com.au

The Jonas Brothers copped a harsh insult on Monday night’s episode of The Project.

At the start of the show, the panel revealed that the three brothers would be appearing on the show for a chat ahead of their sellout Australian tour.

Before their appearance, the gang all chatted about the star’s being on the show and it sparked guest host Steve Price to share his thoughts on the group... and they weren’t kind.

“You like those beats, don’t you, our fourth Jonas Brother tonight, it’s Steve Price!” said Waleed Aly as he introduced the radio shock jock.

Sarah Harris then exclaimed Prince could be part of the band, saying: “You are the bonus Jonas!”

Co-star Sam Taunton then quizzed Prince on his talents, asking the host: “Can you play an instrument?”

Prince then appeared to throw the band under the bus, telling his fellow panellists: “No. Can I sing? No. Can I play an instrument? No. So I’d fill that band perfectly!”

Trying not to draw attention to Price’s comment, Aly interjected: “OK, alright, not bad!’ before swiftly changing the topic.

Thankfully, the Jonas Brothers’ interview on the show had been prerecorded so they were none the wiser about some of the panel’s true feelings about them.

But following Price’s remark, it seems doubtful The Project will be welcoming the popular boyband back onto the show in the near future.

It comes after The Project star Michael Hing made a seriously X-rated confession on Friday’s episode of the Channel 10 show. Hing was joined by his co-stars while the panel discussed what the most painful bites and stings from different Australian critters are.

Australia has earned its reputation for having the most dangerous animals; and venom expert Bryan Fry has ranked Australia’s most painful creatures.

There’s a whole host of critters on the list, including spiders, caterpillars and a number of seriously scary-looking jellyfish.

When the panel came to discuss which creature they’d pick if they had to be stung by one, so they could say they had “survived”, Hing had a rather surprising response that left his co-stars gasping.

“I would pick jellyfish,” he said rather coyly, before adding: “ … because I want to get pissed on.”

His co-stars didn’t quite know what to make of that, with silence falling over the panel for a moment before some of its members erupted into awkward laughter.

Kyle breaks down in tears on TV - news.com.au

Kyle Sandilands has broken down in tears during the season premiere of Australian Idol.

The veteran judge, who forms the panel on this year’s Channel 7 talent show alongside Amy Shark and Marcia Hines, was left deeply moved by one particular audition, where he showed his rare emotional side.

NSW musician Dylan Wright, who was the first auditionee on day one, sang Better Be Home Soon by Crowded House in honour of his late mother, who died a decade ago after a years-long battle with acute lymphoblastic Leukemia.

“I love the song,” Wright began of the personal song choice. “Mum and I saw Crowded House a few years before she passed. It means a few different things, and I guess, one day I’ll be coming back home to her.”

The Bangalow-based father-of-two, armed with his guitar, then delivered a pitch-perfect and emotionally-driven performance of the hit track, which left all three judges speechless.

After taking a moment, Hines began, “That’s one of the most heartfelt performances I’ve seen … You’ve touched me.”

A teary Sandilands was next, asking for a moment before delivering his feedback. “Sorry,” he said, covering his mouth.

“How did I turn from the asshole into the guy who bursts into tears,” the radio shock jock added.

“That was so beautiful. I don’t usually cry in the presence of other men, but what a sweetheart you are. I loved that.

“You, my friend, have got a red hot shot.”

Shark agreed with her fellow judges, saying Dylan was a “freaking superstar.”

“That was such a solid performance,” she said. “You’ve got everything, a kind heart, a great performer, you’ve got a look. I’m all in.”

Another highlight from day one of auditions included Brisbane teen Ripley Alexander, who sang a unique, acoustic rendition of ABBA’s Mamma Mia.

There was also plenty of confidence among auditionees, none more so than Arena McLellan, a 23-year-old from Western Sydney, who boasted in her introduction video she had accumulated 10 properties in the five years since leaving school.

Arena only got more assertive when she fronted the judges, declaring herself as “the only Arena”, to which Sandilands said, “Tina Arena might have a problem with that.”

After belting out an overpowering version of Holding Out For A Hero from the piano, Sandilands gave Arena a ‘yes’, while Shark and Hines both said ‘no’, agreeing she needed to work on “pulling back”.

What unfolded was a cringe-worthy back-and-forth between Arena and Hines, with the auditionee continuing to cut the music icon off mid-criticism.

“Whilst I understand your comments, do you think that would warrant me having to wait another year to change something I could work on [here]?” Arena said.

“Calm down, girlfriend,” Hines said in response. “Listen to what I’m saying. Loosen up.”

Ultimately, Sandilands pushed for Arena to go through, convincing Hines to give her another chance.

Australian Idol continues Tuesday night on Channel 7 at 7.30pm

Kate hospital detail everyone has missed - news.com.au

The last few years would have to be the strangest in royal annals since Alfred the Great green lit the Anglo Saxon Chronicle and someone got started on history’s first bestseller.

Just think about what has happened since only 2019. Somehow we are at a place where the allegation that a prince sexually assaulted a teenage sex trafficking victim involves a suburban branch of a pizza chain. (A claim said Prince Andrew the Duke of York has always denied.)

And somehow we are at a place where a prince of the realm hit the eject button on royal life only to start popping up on US chat shows and TV screens with the regularity of someone selling a swivel sweeper.

Yet, strange times got stranger still this month, with not only King Charles but Kate the Princess of Wales currently laid up in the same London hospital, with the Crown Inc. suffering its worst health crisis since that one time all the lobster thermidor turned out to be off.

The bizarre doesn’t stop there: Why haven’t Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis been to see their mother?

It is now 12 days since the princess and mother of three was admitted to the London Clinic for abdominal surgery, thus 12 days at least since her three young children have seen her.

The day after the Kate news was announced, Prince William, having put his out of office on to do the full-time dad bit, was seen leaving the Clinic via the back in his $268,000 electric Audi.

Both the Sun and the Daily Mail have subsequently reported that the prince has been in to see his wife on a daily basis since then, which is sweet and all but just to really play broken record, what about their kidlets?

And what about, for matter, Kate’s devoted parents Carole and Michale Middleton and her siblings Pippa Matthews and James Middleton, with whom she is very close? (James, who has written about suffering from severe depression, has revealed that Kate “came to some of my therapy sessions” and that she was “by my side during the hardest of times as well.”)

It is not a matter of William wanting to protect his kids from having to brave the wall of invasive, intimidating long lenses of the world’s press either.

The Daily Mail’s royal editor Rebecca English has revealed that “the media have agreed not to have photographers [outside the hospital], not to have camera crews, not to have journalists, to allow [Kate] to recuperate from her operation in privacy and also to respect the privacy of the other patients.”

Therefore, William or the Middletons could easily ferry George, Charlotte and Louis in and out of the hospital to see their mum unobserved and in private.

One possible explanation for the young Waleses staying away came via the Sun, which reported that “William and Kate want her absence to feel as normal as possible for the youngsters”. And Monday to Friday, that’s entirely buyable and reasonable.

But – and here we have a double, treble underlined ‘but’ in bold – what about the weekend just past?

Still, they did not go, instead doing some (I’m assuming) bucolic gambolling about their “doting” Middleton grandparents’ $7 million place in Bucklebury, according to the Sun.

Which is sweet and all and Carole and Michael can ‘dote’ all they want, proffering forth as many sticky buns, sweet treats and gloriously gloopy ice creams as they can find, but is that better than getting a hug from their mother?

The Waleses home Adelaide Cottage is only about a 45-minute drive from Kate’s hospital, so again, that’s hardly a logistic concern that might be preventing a family reunion.

What makes all of this even more bizarre is if you consider the bigger picture. A royal commentator can barely move normally without tripping over some story strenuously flogging the line that the Waleses are devoted parents entirely committed to being as present as possible in their childrens’ lives.

Take, for example, that the prince and princess take off pretty much every school holiday, that is, 19 weeks a year, so that they do bonding things that probably involve matching muddy wellies and games of Pooh sticks.

As a royal aide told the Sunday Times’ Roya Nikkhah last week, William and Kate’s new motto as they face her health situation is, “100 per cent family first, day job second”.

Does that gel with the kids not be taken to see Kate?

I understand: No child wants to see a parent in a hospital bed. It would be scary and upsetting. But I do think that they would prefer to see their mother for a much-needed dose of mumming and to see for themselves that she is on the road to recovery than not.

An argument put forward by the Mail’s English is that “ royals don’t tend to visit each other in hospital, or at least only very rarely.”

Except here comes that word again – ‘but’.

But we haven’t really had members of the royal family, aside from Prince Philip, in hospital for years now making this something of a moot point.

Also, various moda operandi established under the late Queen, like staying clear of relatives in wards, are quietly being done away with to usher in a much more contemporary, less emotionally austere royal family. For example, His Majesty “made a beeline” for his daughter-in-law’s room when he arrived at the London Clinic this week.

Meanwhile Queen Camilla visited her husband three times within the space of 24-hours.

At the very time of year when all the working members of the royal family should be mucking in, instead things have veered dramatically off course and we are far away from normal Windsor programming.

I’d suggest that Camilla invest in some crystals, sage and the services of a half-decent shaman to sort of whatever bad juju or hex is hanging over Buckingham Palace.

If there is one thought that should be keeping Tony Abbott and his monarchical cronies up at night then it’s this: Currently holding the fort are the gloriously flinty Princess Anne, a woman who looks like she keeps a supply of shoulder-length veterinary gloves in her car in case of foaling emergencies and Prince Edward, a man who looks like he audits his golf club’s accounts for fun.

Yeah. Things should be totally fine. Totally.

Halle Bailey claps back at haters who are 'mad' she hid her pregnancy | news.com.au — Australia's leading news site - news.com.au

Halle Bailey doesn’t understand why haters are “mad” that she “protected [her own] peace” by keeping her pregnancy under wraps.

The Little Mermaid star clapped back at a user on X who accused her of “gaslighting” fans by not telling them she and rapper DDG were expecting their first child, who was born in December.

“I never lied or even said anything about it honey, making a joke about my nose was the farthest I went. I’ll never understand why you are mad I protected my own peace, wouldn’t you do the same?” Bailey, 23, wrote, referencing earlier speculation she had a “pregnancy nose”.

“And I’m gonna share my pics now if I want to because my son is here safely, if u don’t wanna see it just keep scrolling baby lol God bless you!”

In a second tweet she added, “lol my hormones have been on 10 recently so I’m gonna go back to staying off twitter. Love you all.”

The user she was responding to claimed fans were “annoyed” that Bailey “went out of her way to lie and gaslight” them about her pregnancy.

“Then, she shaded people and called them desperate. Now, she wants those same ‘desperate’ people to know every little detail,” they alleged.

The Color Purple actress previously addressed her fans’ questions on Snapchat, revealing that she “just wanted to make sure [she] had a beautiful, private healthy time.”

She also thanked her followers for being “so kind and understanding” in the post last week.

“Honestly I stayed off of all social media. I really tried to just keep myself sane and I know that there was a lot of people who would always comment and be like, ‘We know girl, we know,’” she recalled.

“And I’m like, ‘OK, that’s great that you know, but I’m just going to chill.’”

Bailey initially sparked pregnancy rumours when she attended the MTV Video Music Awards in a flowing dress back in September.

An eyewitness at the event told Page Six that “Halle stayed away from the pink carpet so she would not be photographed, and when she was inside, she was very mindful in the way she gave hugs, and who she gave them to.”

The songstress further fuelled speculation when she attended the December premiere of The Color Purple in a poofy dress.

She welcomed her baby boy, Halo, with DDG later that month.

“Even though we’re a few days into the new year, the greatest thing that 2023 could have done for me, was bring me my son. welcome to the world my halo,” she captioned an adorable snap of her son’s hand.

Pics confirm unexpected new A-list couple - news.com.au

Gigi Hadid and Bradley Cooper were spotted holding hands while out and about in London amid their whirlwind romance.

The pair, who was first linked in October, finally confirmed their relationship while on a romantic vacation together across the pond, reports Page Six.

Hadid, 28, and Cooper, 49, went for a casual stroll throughout the city streets on Thursday after jetting out of New York City together two days prior.

While waiting on a street corner, Hadid slipped her arm around the Hangover star’s waist as they appeared deep in conversation.

Despite shooting the paparazzi a glare at one point, the pair was photographed laughing as they continued on their stroll.

The supermodel looked chic in low-slung tan pants, a brown leather bomber jacket and black loafers. She accessorised the casual outfit with a small black purse, sunglasses and gold earrings.

Meanwhile, the Maestro actor bundled up in a double-breasted black coat, camo cargo pants, Nike sneakers and a black scarf. He completed the look with sunglasses and added a pop of colour with a blue checkered beanie.

Despite being spotted out to dinner on numerous occasions, this is the first time the couple has shown any PDA.

While it’s unclear if Hadid and Cooper are in England for business or pleasure, they were spotted wheeling their suitcases through the airport together on Tuesday.

The couple, who was joined by the model’s bodyguard, seemed to be in great spirits before boarding the flight — despite both wearing jeans for the long journey.

Although neither Cooper nor Hadid have commented on their romance, things seem to be heating up between the two.

In fact, Hadid has already met the Silver Linings Playbook star’s mother, Gloria Campano, on multiple occasions.

The blonde bombshell was photographed joining the mother-son duo for dinner after the Golden Globes earlier this month.

Although the trio arrived — and left — separately, they all co-ordinated in all-black looks for the evening.

Hadid was also seen hanging out with Campano in November — shortly after the lovebirds enjoyed a romantic getaway to a charming riverfront town in Pennsylvania, where the actor recently purchased a property.

The two ladies enjoyed a day of shopping together at Hadid’s Guest in Residence store in NYC and the model seemingly gifted the matriarch a pair of her unreleased Adidas x Guest of Residence sneakers, which both Hadid and Cooper have been wearing around town.

Around the same time, an insider told us that things were “getting serious very quickly” between the two A-listers.

“Their relationship is on steroids,” a source said, noting that “they are together every day.”

Although there is an obvious mutual attraction between the two, the insider made it clear that their relationship goes much deeper than that, telling us Cooper finds Hadid “intellectually interesting.”

Despite their 20-year age gap, the two also reportedly “have a lot in common” — such as their “sense of humour” and roles as “single parents to a young daughter,” sources previously told Us Weekly.

The Victoria’s Secret Model shares three-year-old daughter Khai with ex-boyfriend Zayn Malik, while Cooper is dad to daughter Lea De Seine, six, with model Irina Shayk.

Mona Lisa soup: Climate activists in Louvre throw soup at glass protecting famous painting - 9News

Two climate change activists have thrown some soup at the glass protecting the Mona Lisa at the Louvre Museum and shouted slogans advocating for a sustainable food system.
This morning's (evening AEDT) incident came amid days of protests by French farmers across the country against low wages and other problems.

In a video posted on social media, two women with the words "FOOD RIPOSTE" written on their T-shirts can be seen throwing soup at the glass protecting Leonardo da Vinci's masterpiece and passing under a security barrier to get closer to the painting.

"What's the most important thing? Art, or right to a healthy and sustainable food?" They shouted.

"Our farming system is sick. Our farmers are dying at work," they added.

The Louvre employees could then be seen putting black panels in front of the Mona Lisa and asking visitors to evacuate the room.

On its website, the "Food Riposte" group said the French government is breaking its climate commitments and called for the equivalent of France's state-sponsored health care system to be put in place to give people better access to healthy food while providing farmers a decent income.

Angry French farmers have been using their tractors for days to set up road blockades and slow traffic across France to seek better remuneration for their produce, less red tape and protection against cheap imports.

On Friday, the government announced a series of measures they said did not fully address their demands.

Some farmers threatened to converge on Paris, starting on Monday, to block the main roads leading to the capital.
