Julie Goodwin, we did not see this coming.

Australia’s very first MasterChef winner just stunned her fans with an absolutely filthy – and very funny – response to a viral Twitter question.

Swedish Twitter user Lina Lundin prompted the surprising gag from Goodwin with a simple question: “What’s something you could say both during sex and while cooking?”

Lundin’s query prompted thousands of responses and many a cooking double entendre – but few were as filthy as Goodwin’s effort:

Goodwin, who beat fellow MasterChef success story Poh Ling Yeow to win the first season of the show back in 2009, was praised by her fans earlier this year for speaking candidly about her struggles with mental illness. She revealed in February that a mysterious sudden absence from co-hosting her radio show was because she’d spent the past five weeks in a mental health unit.

In an April sit-down interview with The Project’s Lisa Wilkinson, Goodwin said finding herself in such a dark place came as a “shock”.

With the help of husband Michael and her three sons, she got better, and realised the impact her overwhelming schedule – running a cooking school and managing a gruelling breakfast radio timeslot – was taking its toll.

“Everyone just rallied around and I guess … I slowly, incrementally got better.

“You know it wasn’t the end of the world. I’m not that important, I’m a cog in a wheel and we all need a break sometimes.”

Daily Telegraph loses appeal against Geoffrey Rush defamation payout - 9News

Geoffrey Rush will pocket his $2.9M in damages, after Nationwide News lost its fight to overturn the actor's defamation win.

The full bench of the Federal Court dismissed the appeal this morning and ordered both sides discuss how much should be paid in court costs.

Last April, Justice Michael Wigney ruled the Daily Telegraph had defamed Mr Rush in its front page world exclusive, which alleged he engaged in inappropriate conduct during the 2015 production of King Lear.

He found actress Eryn Jean Norvill was an unreliable witness who was "prone to embellishment or exaggeration".

The three Judges on the Full Court accepted the argument that he should not have attached "significance" to positive statements which Ms Norvill made about her co-star while she promoted the production.

But they did not believe a mistake had been made in assessing her overall credit.

"The Judge's assessment of Ms Norvill was based on findings that are not glaringly improbable, contrary to compelling inferences or inconsistent with incontrovertible facts or other uncontested testimony," the judgement read.

The amount awarded to Mr Rush was also deemed as "appropriately high" given the serious nature of what was said about the Oscar winning actor.

The Daily Telegraph's editor Ben English released a statement in reaction to the ruling.

"In November 2017 The Daily Telegraph published an article based on a public statement by the Sydney Theatre Company that an actor had made a complaint against Geoffrey Rush," he said.

"While we respect the findings of the Full Court the Rush case exposes the inadequacies of Australia's defamation laws and heightens the need for urgent legislative reform to enable public debate and to encourage women to come forward with their concerns.

"In that context we are very disappointed that the appellate court did not reverse Justice Wigney's findings as to the credibility of Eryn Jean Norvill or reverse His Honour's decision to exclude the testimony of Yael Stone.

"We support both women in their decision to share their complaints.

"We will continue to report on the issues such as these which are of great concern to the Australian public.

"As stated by High Court Chief Justice Susan Kiefel last week, there is no place for sexual harassment in any workplace."

Titus Day: Police say Guy Sebastian’s manager may have defrauded more stars - NEWS.com.au

Pop star Guy Sebastian’s former manager, Titus Day, may have defrauded other high profile clients, police have alleged.

Mr Day, 47, was arrested at his Bondi home on Wednesday and charged with 61 counts of dishonestly obtaining a financial advantage by deception after allegedly defrauding the singer out of $1.15 million over a seven-year period.

Detective Acting Inspector Guy Magee said the police investigation into the alleged fraud had led detectives to believe “there may be more victims”, and encouraged them to come forward.

“No formal complaints have been made, so police would encourage any one who at any time feels they have been the victim of similar offences to contact police,” he said.

He told NCA NewsWire the alleged other victims are “a small number” of Mr Day’s clients, but none have identified themselves to the police.

Mr Magee said Sebastian had approached police with his suspicions on June 3, and is believed to have been surprised at the extent of what the police investigation revealed.

In a statement issued Thursday morning, Sebastian said he had been in an ongoing dispute over his money, starting before he parted ways with Mr Day in November 2017, and was “absolutely devastated to learn the detail and nature of the charges”.

“All my income was controlled via Titus into a trust account, and after noticing some disparities in payments, I requested important financial information that I was rightfully entitled to, and upon doing so, our relationship began deteriorating,” he said.

“Over these last years, my integrity and reputation have been questioned, and many untruths have been publicly stated.

“For me, this has been deeply personal, and this period has been the toughest of my life.

“These charges are a sad vindication of my position.”

Sebastian and Mr Day spent 12 years working together before their acrimonious split in 2017. Both are currently suing each other, with Sebastian claiming he is owed $200,000 in royalties for his work and Mr Day claiming Sebastian owes him $800,000 of unpaid fees.

Mr Day will appear in Waverly Local Court on Thursday.

MasterChef Australia’s Chris Badenoch slams Andy Allen’s ‘incredibly frustrating’ feedback - NEWS.com.au

One of this season’s eliminated MasterChef contestants has let rip at judge Andy Allen over his “incredibly frustrating” critiques.

Andy has been copping grief on social media all season long with some MasterChef viewers suggesting his feedback to the contestants has been “basic” compared to the insightful feedback offered up by Melissa Leong and Jock Zonfrillo.

And it’s not just viewers who feel that way, with one of this season’s contestants telling news.com.au that Andy’s feedback is “not constructive”.

“It’s not feedback, it’s just a collection of words that make no sense,” Chris Badenoch, who was the seventh person eliminated from this season of MasterChef, said.

“He’s commented on things that I’ve cooked and when he’s walked away it’s like, ‘I have no idea what he said or what he meant.’ You almost need subtitles. I don’t get it!

“It’s incredibly frustrating,” Chris told news.com.au about Andy’s comments. “Jock or Melissa will give you a good critique … (but Andy) it’s not constructive. It’s like a Trump speech; a whole lot of words that don’t match.”

Andy, who won MasterChef in 2012 before becoming a judge, has also been teased on social media this season over his fashion choices.

Chris Badenoch also poked fun at one of Andy’s outfits in an Instagram post.

But the Instagram post didn’t go down well with Channel 10, Chris revealed to news.com.au.

“I got in trouble for making fun of Andy,” the eliminated contestant said. “The producers don’t like when I poke fun at things. It’s a reality TV show for Christ’s sake, have some fun!”

Overall, the new MasterChef judges have been a hit with viewers who have praised the trio for breathing new life into the program which has been running for 12 seasons.

Melissa Leong in particular has been extremely popular with fans, but Chris told news.com.au he was actually most impressed by Jock during his time on the show.

“It feels like he’s been doing it forever,” Chris told news.com.au about Jock. “He’s so natural, his sense of humour comes across and he’s obviously a hatted chef so he knows his sh*t.

“He’s the one that’s been the most impressive by a mile,” Chris said.

Since being eliminated on MasterChef, Chris has returned to Western Australia where he lives with his wife Julia Jenkins who he met on the first season of the cooking show.

Chris said the couple are still tuning into MasterChef “on and off” but added it can be hard to watch when you’ve been a contestant.

“You know how the machine works so watching it is not as enjoyable as if you’re just a consumer,” he told news.com.au. “You can see what’s going to happen and you can see how it all works out. There’s no jeopardy.”

Chris said he can tell what’s going to happen by watching the interviews with the contestants as they narrate what happens during the cooking challenges.

“You can tell if somebody is upset or happy or pretending not to know … you can see that a mile away when you’ve done it a lot of times” he told news.com.au. “It takes the magic away somewhat.”

Since returning home, Chris, who is a talented illustrator, has been putting the final touches on a graphic novel that he wrote with fellow MasterChef contestant Aaron Harvie.

“It’s literally days away,” Chris said about the novel called The Straits. “It’s like an ’80s horror film in the vein of Alien and The Thing and it’s set on the ocean.

“I’ve had so much fun writing this and drawing it with Aaron,” he said.

To Northern Territorians, Territory Day is all about the fireworks (and, at times, also about dousing the grassfires that result).

But after COVID-19 forced the cancellation of fireworks events, Territorians have found renewed pride in their rich music, culture, and diversity.

The Territory Sounds Countdown has filled the void with a search for the top 40 songs that the world can thank the NT for.

The Countdown featured music from the desert to the islands and everywhere between, blaring from ABC radio stations and community radio, in homes, pubs, and cafes.

The clear winner, revealed just after 9pm on Territory Day, was Yothu Yindi's 1991 release, Treaty.

Yothu Yindi founding member Witiyana Marika was over the moon just to hear the political anthem made it into the top 40.

But then it was revealed the song won.

"I'm going to celebrate something, I don't know.

Another Yothu Yindi song Djapana / Sunset Dreaming came fourth.

"(Djapana is about) whats happening with the people slipping away and living in other societies," he said.

"That song brings everyone back."

In the tally room, there was daylight between the top three songs.

Papunya rockers The Warumpi Band took out second and third place with My Island Home and Blackfella, Whitefella.

Warumpi member Neil Murray said the later has become an iconic protest song.

"I just showed (band founder and guitarist Sammy Butcher) the words I had and he said: 'we've gotta do this. We've all got to live together black and white we've all got to get along'," Murray said.

"Just prior to us recording it in '84 down in Sydney (singer George Rrurrambu) said 'we've gotta say yellafella'. So we stuck that in the second verse.

"That song is The Warumpi Band song that really represents what we are on about.

Anything new or strange?

It was a male-dominated top 40.

Ali Mills was the only female-lead act to break the top 10.

Dave Garham called it out on air.

Not counting former female members of a small number of bands, the only other women in the countdown were Mauboy and Emily Wurramara, in 33rd place with Black Smoke.

Sara Storer was in duet with Katherine powerhouse Tom Curtain on Speak Up, a song about the tragic death of teenager Dolly Everett in 2018.

The band with the most songs in the top 40, are a band many never heard before but which have just enjoyed renewed success overnight according to radio texters, was Darwin hard rock band The Poor with seven entries, followed by 2019 Young Australian of the Year Baker Boy with five songs.

Not all went as expected

Two upsets were the placings of some of Australia's best-known exports: the solitary Dr G Yunipingu song Bapa in eighth; and Jessica Mauboy with Little Things in 22nd place and Eurovision 2018 entry We Got Love in 34th place.

Contemporary country musos Tom Curtain and Dave Garnham can't be unhappy with five and two songs in the poll — each act with a tune near the top end of the list.

There was also room for the heavies. Aside from The Poor, metal band Emerald Sun scored a hat trick.

Who didn't make it?

Notable absences from the top 40 — but still inside the top 100 — were Caiti Baker and Sietta, Shellie Morris, Leah Flanagan, Ali Mills, Apakatjah, and Stevie Jean.

Almost 2000 votes were cast and voters could choose from about 1000 songs, including their own submissions.
